We made another song today. We sampled some sounds clips from a Haida information site and made a techno song around it. For anybody who's curious, Haida was a Pacific Indian native language that is currently only spoken by about 30 people. The lyrics in the song are "My name is Joe", "I'm eating meat", and "It's deer meat".

So here it is:

Deer Meat [Haida Mix]

So, unlike the rest, I didn't laugh, sorry. I just enjoyed it. I thought it was heartful, sentimental, and emotional. I honestly did. I guess my world's got different glasses in front of it. I loved it, man. Absolutely amazing. Tell your dad. Really, very cool.

Cool, thanks for listening! I'm glad somebody did.

Or, were you talking about the video? It makes more sense that you could find the video heartfelt and sentimental, because those were definitely not words I would have picked for the other one.

Actually, I'm going to move these posts to a new thread in the hopes that people didn't listen to it because they just didn't expect to find a new song in an old thread.

I was having trouble playing the file. What kind of an extention is that?/ what program should I use to play it?

Edit: Got it!

Pretty fun, not much of a techno guy for the most part. But that's pretty cool. Mostly because it's written with a "dead language".

How did you go about finding out about this language, let alone deciding to write a song using it? And, what on earth prompted the choice of phrases?

Edit, edit:
Doh, you already moved it, crap, now I've got to go find it. I don't think it's worth it....sorry, I already listened to it. Good job.

It's an ogg. You should be able to download a codec to play it on whichever media player you're running, but if not, you can use VLC media player. The other song I uploaded as an ogg nobody had any problems with, so I didn't even think about converting this one to an mp3.

Here's some information from the two major media players. (Interestingly, most of the "lesser" media players, like WinAmp, work with ogg files. Get in the game, Windows/Mac!).

I accidentally posted in the other thread after you already moved the song to this thread. So if you really care what I thought, you can look at it there.

In short, good job, very original, and funny. Not really heartful or sentimental to me though.

About ten years ago or so, we had this Encarta Encyclopedia program. In that program there were various phrases (like "Hello", the numbers, and also a popular phrase (the English one was "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush")) in basically every single language. We listened to them a lot when we were bored, and the Haida one was always the funniest. Then just a couple of days ago, my dad (who works at a body shop) met this person who crashed their car who studies dead languages. They (him and his wife) are currently working on Pacific languages, and my dad got really excited and asked if they were studying Haida. That rekindled our love of that language. I had been begging him to make a song with me all summer, and when we finally got around to it, he decided to add some Haida into it. We were basically just wanting to make some light-hearted and comical with the language.

As for the choice of phrases, we picked them off that site I linked to in the OP because, well, it was funny.

I listened to yours and it's a very good job. What surprises me is that it sounds like a very professional song, with that 1min40 variation for instance, and you should try to make a music producer listen to it, really Aqualung, don't leave this song in the shadows of our hard drives, I'm serious !!

Moreover, I can't explain you why, but I really love the atmosphere of the song. If you make more songs like this, please PM me !

Joe, he knew what?

I liked the beat a lot, but not so much the sound of the synth samples. They were a bit over the top, like something from a bad 80's movie action sequence, like Police Academy or Short Circuit.

But I liked the randomness of the samples added, good work.

I'm so sorry I didn't mean for my comment to be ignorant. I had assumed that you where a male because of your simple yet profound replies and your avatar. I apologize again if it was offensive.

Don't worry, I didn't take offense. It's basically a given that if you're from the internets you're male. Plus, it's not like my gender ever came up in conversation before - there's really no reason you should have known either way.

Simple yet profound replies = male... Hmmm, now that's something I might take exception to.

I actually wasn't able to listen to the file. I think it has something to do with the fact that it's an .ogg file, which I can't seem to play. I'd love to hear it though, and I think it's really great that you can make music with your father; that's a really wonderful thing.
