Anybody like Stevie Ray Vaughan? Hes my favorite guitar player!!!! I can't be the only one here. He had quite a unique sound and playing style, one of which we will never see again, but at least we have the music!!! My favorite song of his is Wall Of Denial, but i love everything he does anyway... So any more SRV fans out there?

*raises hand* I am!
My dad introduced me to his music a couple months ago, so I'm not totally familiar with all of it, but I do love it so far. I'm developing a love for the bluesy-rock genre.

Stevie was the master of playing rhythm and lead at the same time and just making a really full sounding song with a guitar alone, amazing body of work. My favorites of his are Little Wing, Pride and Joy, Life Without You, Texas Flood, The Sky is Crying, Tin Pan Ally (zomg what a great fucking song, I'm gonna go listen to it right now), and of course his rendition of Voodoo Chile.
![]() It's so sad that we lost SRV right at the height of his career, he could have given us 30+ more years of great music, but such is life. ![]()

I hafta give stevie props for being the greaest guitar player ive ever heard, at least in the blues genre, but i doubt anyone could outplay him on any night. And yes, Tin Pan Alley!!! Love that song, also Riveria Paradise, thats the hardest fucking slow song ive ever read on sheet music. |

SRV rocks!
As a fan of SRV I think you'd enjoy a fellow by the name of Chris Duarte. He is a Texas guitar slinger in a very similar vein. |

I think Stevie Ray Vaughn is an exceptionally talented musician, even though I don't really like Blues that much. In fact, I saw him once on Austin City Limits or something and I was more impressed with his abilities than any other musician before that. I do really like the song "Crossfire" though.

I also think hes one of the greatest singers of all time. Lets face it, hes way underrated in the singing department, one of the best blues singers too. All that combined with his guitar playing is what made him a legend, at least to me. He also had a badass keyboard player, i think his name was reese, that guy could burn a damn keyboard.

Lucky enough to have seen SRV back during the Couldn't stand the weather/worldwide flood tour (think I was like 15 maybe?). I had those nosebleed seats in the "you need anti-grav boots to hold you in your chair" section. The theater was an old place- not the greatest, and I had to move around a bit to get a good view. (I was directly over the stage- saw a whole lot of Stevie's hat and guitar neck!) I came back from that show with all the blood drained from my face.. and it was a few days of looking at my guitar shaking my head in disbelief. SRV was truly amazing. The lead and rhythm playing at the same time- did he make that popular? I don't know- I know I picked it up from somewhere (been doing that style of playing for years now) I just figured I played that way because I couldn't always find a good bass player..
Listen to SRV man..if ya wanna become an exceptional guitarist- unplug all the distortion, all the effects.. go with a little overdrive.. try your hands at blues and stuff SRV has done- it will build up your strength and dexterity and THEN when or if you decide to crank in the distortion and play metal- well.. people will applaud in awe of the level of your skills. |
