Those two are pretty close in my opinion, as far as rock star status. Morrison was more epic because of his weirdness and/or tripping all the time. But Plant has had rock star status for 40 years now, whereas Morrison has been dead for 38 years.

I agree with Musicman. Obviously, Morrison had the whole "lizard King" persona perfected, but Plant was a "golden god". personally- I will take Plant over Morrison. My reasoning is that Zeppelin stretched over several decades and have changed as to styles of songs from blues to folk,to all-out-hard-rock assault, gone UnLedded, done solo works and now going in a bit of an opposite direction from the Zep stuff with Alisson Krauss. This makes me lean more towards Plant because Morrison was only alive and in the spotlight for a short time -during which the music and his "rock-star image" had not changed much at all.Technically, I suppose that going nuts on drugs, pulling your pants down onstage and eventually dying from an overdose (if that actually happened and he's not pulling a Rimbaud move by faking a death,)
then those moves put Morrison ahead of Plant as a "bona-fide rock star",
maybe we need to better define what in your terms makes a "rock star" .. because if we just go by vocal prowess- it goes to Plant.

Jim Morrison has my vote.

I mean, of course Plant was a better singer technically, but the "soft", feminine style he often reverted to really annoys me sometimes.
I love the Doors for their dark, gloomy sound, and Jim Morrison's mighty voice contributed a lot to this dark atmosphere. Like Plant, he could switch from a "soft" to a "rough" vocal style within seconds, but with Morrison it never gets annoying.
