Hello there!
Seems like my previous post didn't show up? So once again...
I am new here and would like to ask a few questions. First of all welcome all.
I play the piano amd recently started thinking about composing in chill out moods. Because I cannot write the music properly (notes - I have never learned writing down the music, however I can read the notes very well) and will need a software which could write down the music which I will play. but this problem is not so vital. The things that worrying me much is, when I will buy an electronic piano with hammer action, like Yamaha P-140 for instance (I hate all kind of synthesizers and disco-keyboards) and connect it to my PC via midi/USB, than all I will get will be the midi sound, regardelss how delicate and soul music I will play on the piano. Am I correct with this? I am just a little bit confused waht to do, because I like to play classical music (Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, etc. and that's why I need good electronical piano pretending grand piano). And on the other hand all I will get from this piano is the midi outlet and than what? For chillout composing I will need something else and you cannot just turn the midi sound into strings or clarinet using your PC without loosing all tenderness of a sound you originally played on the keys. I just don's know if you got what I mean...
So my quastion here is if such a piano with midi would be enough and the rest you eventually arrange using PC software, or maybe it would be better to buy a piano not neceserely with the best "key touch" quality but very good sound database? What do you think?
And finally could you recommend me a good software for editing music? With good smaple's database, some quasi-professional multi-machine, the best available for home editing your composed music.
Besides (sorry for long thread) could you please recommend me a site, whan I could start my adventure with proper music engineering? What I mean is, how the professionals produce a final shape of a LP or album sound from a raw studio material?
Thank you very much in advance for your answers or suggestions.
Kind regards

That's a really good question. I can't answer it myself (not much into home recording) but don't worry - we have a number of members who really like to home record. Next time they're on I'm sure they'd be happy to lend you hand with this question.

About the MIDI, it depends on the samples you use. I guess right now you run it through your computer's soundcard default samples, which by default, suck. Using VST plugins, or similar stuff, you can "redirect" your notes through "realistic" samples, giving more body to your sound. There is one I use often, it's free, and simple to use (so simple, that there are no settings at all ), it's called 4fpiano. It's not pro-quality, but still, better than midi.

About the application you want, with lots of samples and stuff, it would be better to wait for a MAC user to answer, since they say Garageband is a great program for that.

p.s. the VST plugins must be used inside an app. I use Cubase, but many others can do it as well.
