Hi everyone.
I have a problem. A very important choice to be made! I recently bought Guitar Hero 3, and like that game a lot. But that game only works in my C partition, which is almost full. So to run the game, I have to remove Cubase and Guitar Pro's RSE plugins (just zip them away, and then it's ok). What would you prefer having in your disk? I love this game, but I like recording and writing music as well... For the moment, I left guitar hero AND guitar pro, without RSE, and removed Cubase temporarly, knowing that a simple unzip brings it back if needed (and moving Guitar Hero to another drive in the mean time). What would you do? |

I would dump guitar hero, but then again, I don't like guitar hero.

What other partitions do you have?
If you can, move something else and keep everything. |

hda1 (NTFS) - windows xp, system and programs - 10 gb, 600megs free after installing GH3
hda2 (EXT3) - lunar linux - 10 gb, about 5 gb free hda3 (EXT3) - kubuntu - 10 gb, about 4 gb free hda5 (SWAP) - kubuntu swap file hda6 (EXT3) - data, music, games, documents, shared by the 3 os'es (windows XP can read EXT3, after installing a plugin) - about 80 gb, 20 or 30 gb are free. The problem is that GH3 won't work if installed in any other partition. I had a similar program with Battlefield2, but I solved it by playing with the registry and some configuration files. But the same thing doesn't work here. My guess is that it's due to the EXT3 filesystem, not returning the same checksum or something like that. For the moment, I use two batches, to move things from one place to another, depending if I want to use GH3 or do some music work. It's not too slow, so I guess it can stay that way. p.s. the only things taking space in hda1, apart from windows itself, are guitarpro, cubase, and GH3. The rest are just small 10 or 20 megs apps. |

Is there nothing else that you could move so that you can leave the both of those programs and their files where they need to be?

I'd love to remove Windows XP, but unfortunately, cubase doesn't run very well on linux (Guitar pro does, Guitar Hero as well I think, with a few graphics issues).
When I partitioned the system I thought that the C drive would only be for windows and a few apps, and the games would be in the other one. But since this particular game won't stay with the others ... |

Get a new computer
jk lol See what old documents you don't need anymore and put the ones you need on some sort of storage device like a key or disk. Then just put it in when you need it. That should give you some room.

No, really, the only thing using space on that disk, apart of these 3 apps, is windoze xp itself. But a few batch scripts are doing the job quite well for the moment. And, while the thing "loads", I can just use that time to browse KMA a bit
![]() The problem wouldn't be the space in the disk (the computer's quite new in fact) but the fact that, when I installed it, I thought every game would be installed in the "big partition", so the windoze partition wouldn't need lots of space. But it's working fine now, more or less (Could win against Slash in medium mode, and play Welcome to the Jungle, but still struggling with it on the real guitar !) |

No videogame console, and no TV, since the only use for a TV would be watching DVD's, and for that, I have a nice computer with a big screen and a 5.1 system. And videogame consoles, I like old games (snes, nes, arcade), and those are played in the same computer, with emulators
so no need for a TV |

Just found a fun thing to do, if a song is fun to play in the game, it's usually fun t oplay for real as well. So , convert the tracks to ogg format, and in that way you can remove the guitar from the original track, and play guitar "with the real guys, with a real guitar!"
It's quite fun for Welcome to the Jungle, at least, with both the game and the real guitar. |

define your passions man. would you rather play guitar or play GH3. which one give you more satisfaction? Here's what I say....playing an instrument is a gift so don't neglect it. I would kill GH3 and stick with Cubase and any other recording software you have. Why play GH3, "Play" music, when you can create it?! I think in the long run, you'll be glad you kept it. Besides, things never work 100% after you start moving files and stuff around.
