I'm 16 years old, but my favorite music is the old rock n roll stuff, many of artists of that time are dead, which makes me sad, but at least we still have the music to listen to forever, so, who did you want to see before they died?

1. The orginal Lynyrd Skynyrd: I think the plane crash was in 1977, but still, i wish i could have seen ronnie and steve and allen onstage. Allen Collins died in 1990 (RIP)

2. Stevie Ray Vaughan: The greatest blues guitarist ever, he died in a helicopter crash 11 days before i was born, so that sucks, i wish i could have seen him onstage too. (RIP)

3. Dimebag Darrell: This one shouldn't be on here cause he should still be alive, i was so torn up when i heard about his death on the radio, i didn't know what to do. I never got to see Pantera or Damageplan, and Dime was taken from us way too fuckin' soon, from a piece of shit loser, and he took away any chance i ever had to see dime in his glory. (RIP)

And so many others, Freddie Mercuray, Cliff Burton, Bon Scott, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, the list goes on.

I believe what you are looking for is a time machine.
Man that would be crazy, traveling back to classic concerts. I would mostly go see some of my favorite bands back before they turned shit. Hello, I am looking at you Motley Crue, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth, Metallica, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Guns N Roses, Aerosmith, etc you get the point.

God there's so many! If I had to pick a few I'd say SRV and Jimi, Elliot Smith, would have loved to have seen Nirvana live in New York Unplugged thankfully there's a DVD of that show I need to buy. Robert Johnson and Huddie Ledbetter. Oh and I'd learn sign language and go back in time and talk to Ludwig Van and discover his secrets to writing perfect music despite being deaf.

Many great picks already.

I'll just add Ian Curtis, lead singer of Joy Division. They were immense in the late seventies. Despite being a great band, New Order lacked the thing that made JD one of my absolute favorites; Curtis' lyrics and stage presence.

And probably also Mark Bolan, frontman of T.-Rex. He was a miracle, truly one of the greatest singers and writers ever. Would have been a joy to watch.

Once I had tickets to see Pantera, but it was cancelled because of 11/9 (the concert was 2 or 3 days after, and their plane couldn't take off the USA. And then... voila, no more Dime so no more Pantera.

I think I'd go back and see Live Aid or some other big music festivals. I can't pick just one or two bands.

I think I like New Order better than Joy DIvision.

He's dead?! Nooooo!!

TO point out, though, Marc Boland was an artist in his own right, too, not just as a front man. I have a bunch of Marc Boland stuff myself. I guess I'd want to see him in concert, then.

As to the OP - Most of the bands I would want to see in concert aren't dead, just broken up. Or expensive. Like the Police tickets that are $225. Sure, I like a lot of dead bands, but not really enough to actually want to see them.

Hmmmm... if I had a time machine...

One concert from each of Tool's Lateralus and Ænima tours.

Those artists I miss, and really wish I could have seen...

the Beatles. Mr Lennon, rest in peace.

Wagner's original performance of Ride of the Valkyries.

Mozart conducting his own pieces.

Led Zepp with the magnificent Bonzo

Pink Floyd circa 1970-74

Metallica before Burton was killed by a druken bus driver

Kyuss around 1994 Dream team line up

If there's any typos in there I apologise. My keyboards on the fritz.

Then I'll respect that. In fact, I reckon "True Faith" to be the best song if you include both NO and JD-material.

He's dead, yes. Died in a car accident. Artist in his own right? Do you mean that he was a solo artist? If you mean that he was more than "just a frontman", well then I fully agree. T.-Rex were underrated and "Electric Warrior" is probably one of my favorite albums. And as we know, Marc Bolan was the creative light behind all their music.

Yeah, that's a good one.

Yeah, he had a solo carreer, although not a very extensive one. Less extensive than I thought, since I have accidentally labeled t. rex stuff as Marc Boland.

Chrisp posted a couple of interviews with him a while back that were on youtube I think. Try searching here or searching youtube for "Zappa interview" should net a lot of videos. He really was one of a kind, really interesting guy. But you could tell that just by what he named his kids lol.

Oh and to HeroOfTheDay.... I forgot to mention that if you haven't seen Skynyrd in concert at all, definitely go check them out. Johnny sounds just like Ronnie and the band is amazing. I saw them and the Allman Brothers Band (with Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes in the lineup) and it was probably the best concert I've ever been to.

Forgot About Zappa, a truly unique man, (don't you eat that yellow snow): great advice.

I've thought of some more, in addition to all the others mentioned, I would have loved to see Chet Adkins burn a guitar up, Duane Allman, Hank Williams, James Brown, Johnny Cash... and so on and so on.

BTW, ive never heard of joy division, are they good? forgive me for being in the dark, ive just never seen anything by them.

Synth-pop band from the 80's. Leader of the band killed himself. You've probably heard, if not the original, covers of their songs such as Black Monday (covered by Orgy) and Dead Souls (covered by NIN on The Crow Soundtrack). They can range from light and airy pop to dark electronic, a big influence on early industrial type bands. You should check them out. I'm not a huge fan but it's worth having to expand your horizons and better understand where the chain of inspiration for some bands kinda started.

Black Monday was by New Order. And that Orgy cover rocked my world.

Blue Monday is a good song, but I just can't really bring myself to enjoy the Orgy cover. It just seems a bit off.

I've seen Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert, matter of fact it was my first one, and they kicked ass!!

I just wanted to ronnie with the original band back in the 70s, the only two orginal members are Gary Rossington and the piano player, (his name escapes me, something powell, i think), nothing beats the orginal, but they did a great job.

With Derek and Warren?? you lucky dawg, They came to Savannah with the Allmans, but that's it, but they still rocked. I've always loved southern rock more than anything else, being i'm from there i guess.

Thanks for the tip anyway...

Figure id revive the thread. I have no more to add, which is kind of a good thing, but i would like to say again that i wish i could have seen Dimebag Darrell in concert just one time, that would be a dream come true, but, someone jerk-off bastard had to ruin it. RIP darrell, you are missed.

Oh, and a question, you realize that it has been THREE YEARS since he was murdered? It seems like yesterday to me, i can still remember the news reports on it, all that shit. Anyone else feel that way?

Were there news reports? Here in belgium, you have to be a (c)RAP dude to be on the news. I'll miss Dimebag as well, not only a great musician, but a very cool guy.
