I have used a Boss BR1600 Digital Audio Workstation for a number of years now. All of my recordings are done totally with the BR1600. recording, mixing, mastering .What I would like is some input on PC software that will enable me to run a USB from the BR1600 into my PC and either edit each track individually or edit the entire song.
Think of it this way- I have a song that sounds perfect, but need to do a shorter version- which chops out the intro and outro.. so I need something that will enable me to do this. I have some works that I like the overall recording- but want to tweak some of the EQ a bit or chop 30 seconds from the front of the recording. Things like that. the only names I have heard repeatedly are Pro Tools and Cubase.. I need something easy to use- I'm not looking to record directly into the PC -just do some editing, mixing and mastering on the PC.. (I suppose if it has an option for me to record to the PC- that may be something I'd experiment with- but right now I am happy with the sounds on the BR1600- so this would be taking the tracks already recorded and working them on the PC) Oh and budget- hmm..I'd like to keep it under 200 bucks (well, actually I may ask for this as a Christmas gift- but you get the idea..affordability is important) So- what do you suggest? PS- now, if the software comes with bells and whistles where I can add a symphony to my recording or transcribe the whole song to notation -well, that would also be a nice plus too.. Any suggestions or am I just dreaming of a product that does not exist? Thanks!

Before we made the switch over to Ubuntu Studio (Linux) we used primarily Pro Tools for stuff like that. Pro Tools is pretty expensive but definitely worth the money spent. You will however, need a computer with a decent processor, sound card (if you want to hook studio monitors up), and enough memory to run the whole thing.

I use Acid Music Studio by Sony, but why don't you just record a shorter version of the song?

I think that there's a lite version of Pro Tools but not sure about this.

I've tried to do the whole thing over, but cannot always seem to nail the sound or attitude exactly as I had it on the original.

I saw some sort of Pro tools lite version advertised on Musicians friend- but I do not know what was on the disc. It was way cheper- about 50 bucks.

Yeah, I do get what you mean, I demo the hell out of every song I've written until I find a prefferable sound. And it's so frustrating and tedious. I'm generally sloppy and not too worried about sounding perfect, so I don't even bother re-mixing or editing a song once I finalise it.
