Although, to be fair, Coldplay and Bright Eyes are alright. Not my style, but I don't mind them.
This is when I say I hate both Coldplay and Bright Eyes.

The Coldplay Controversy Continues! I'm such a dork.

Personally, I don't categorize them as emo; more like alternative or something. They're just really melancholy. Wait...is that emo???

I like Fall Out Boy, but only that Sugar song and "Dance Dance", so I don't think that counts...

Technically Coldplay count as soft rock like The Fray.
It still counts if you like only a couple of songs.

Unwound
Jawbox
Treepeople
Sunny Day Real Estate
Dinosaur Jr.
Pitchfork
Drive Like Jehu
Engine Kid
Built To Spill
Chokebore
Rein Sanction
Shudder to Think
PJ Harvey
Shellac
While these are good bands most of them aren't emo.

Unwound, Jawbox, and Drive Like Jehu a post-hardcore band with mathrock tendacies. Built to Spill is indie-rock. Shellac is noise rock. DJR is indie-rock with noise-rock tendacies. SDRE is the only emo band up there.

I actually really like emo. It' my favorite genre. It started as melodic vocals and guitar driven in 1984 with bands like Rites of Spring and Embrace [hopefully obviously not the brit-pop band rather the Ian MacKaye band] and kind of broke of into two branches into the 90s post-emo which had a more poppy aproach Cap'n Jazz, Sunny Day Real Estate, Boys Life, Ethel Meserve and also chaotic-emo with stuff like Heroin, Impetus Inter and Reachout. In the late 90s screamo came about with bands like The Fiction, You and I, and Funeral Diner.

My favorites are Bells on Trike, Closure, Republic of Freedom Fighters, Falling Forward, and Ettil Vrye.

Welcome to te forums! It's always great to have another emo fan, since they're somewhat underrepresented in our population.

I listen to suicidal black metal..you can't get anymore emo than "Stick a pencil up your nose and bash your head into a table!" That stuff is great.
