Don't know if you guys remember me from the short period I was actively posting a while back, but I've been doing more practicing than posting lately.

I started playing the ukulele Nov. 4th, and started voice lessons a week or two after. So I'm a musical heathen/illiterate cave person. This is the first time anyone on the planet has heard me sing/play. Please be brutally honest. I know that I suck. Any specifics on how I suck/how to suck less would be fantastic.

BananaPancakes.wav

There are some mistakes in there that I just roll with, as it is not so much a performance as a recorded practice run. The song is Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson. Thanks for your time...you guys are awesome...

Haha, you suck!

Nah, honestly though, it's amazing that you could multitask like that for three minutes. I amire your attention span. Your memory for structure and lyrics is far better than mine is. What you need to be focused on is rhythm and harmony. If you want to improve your voice, something that helps a lot is just singing along to the music you listen to. Nothing has helped my voice more than singing Andrew Bird, The Beatles, Cake, Gorillaz, and Jack Johnson sometimes too . Look up the lyrics if you need to (I always do). Even if you think you sound like crap, just keep listening to the pitch and rhythm, keep singing along. And make sure the song isn't too quiet. Practice makes perfect.

I liked the musical part. The singing was a bit un-clear recording wise. It was a little hard to understand.

Thank you both for your replies. Yeah, I'm trying to figure out this whole recording thing. It's hard to get the vocals loud enough over the uke. Maybe I'm just not singing loud enough..but it sounds good in my skull, lol.

I'll try to get a more decent recording...and, of course, keep singing along.

Thanks again.

That's a funny song !
I couldn't really understand the lyrics, but the melody was great and the pitch of your voice is great too. Too bad the general sound of your recording is too Low-Fi...

that's really good, especially considering that you've only been playing for a month and a half or so. It took me like half a year to be able to sing and play guitar at the same time, so good work.
