Hi! I got some questions here, so I would love some answers.

1. I'm planning n buying a new guitar, and I was thinking about a Epiphone Les Paul 100. Is it a good guitar? (for hard rock, and some metal)

2. I need a new amp to, can I have some tips on great amps?

3. How can I get enough money to buy everything?

4. Is there a big difference between bass and guitar(not the sound, but the playing)? I would like to play both, but I'm not sure yet.

5. Could anyone give me $1000 to buy a new guitar+amp?*

*Just kidding

Yes.

My amp is a Behringer, and I like it, but Behringer gets mixed reviews. Peavey is a respected amp brand.

You'll have to work for it. Do anything for everybody. Don't expect a handout, or you probably won't get it.

Bass is a lot more rhythmic. You fret the strings differently. But if you play lead guitar, playing bass shouldn't be too difficult. Just make your bass line like little solos, except play a note every beat (instead of, like on the guitar, sustaining notes for longer periods of time).

Sure!

I recommend a Schecter diamond series such as the Exotic Star. It's an honest quality company period. They play well also and sound awesome.

Bass is for the string player who loves drums. Do you love the drums? play bass.

Guitar is for the quick of mind. Are you quick of mind? play guitar.

Get a combo amp and practice 3-5 hours a day for 3 years. Learn your scales. Major, minor and Pentatonic. Work on drills. Learn simple chords, and definately learn the power chord. The power chord is proof of god. Trust me,

Epiphones are GREAT guitars for starting out and their Les Pauls have "all Gibson parts"- which means that in many ways you are getting the same thing that every rock icon has used (just lesser grades of wood and usually made in Korea or someplace) - I have an Epiphone semi-hollow and it is AWESOME beyond words. Epiphone is great quality- worth every penny. I would not go with any cheaper or lesser grade Les Pauls by other companies because many of them do not have their weight evenly distributed between the body and the neck of the guitar (so standing up- your guitar neck goes up at an angle which causes a lot more fatigue on the hands because it is not ergonomically friendly.)
Amp- Peavey is great quality- and usually reasonably priced. Remember however that less money sometimes means less wattage- which means the amp will not get very loud. 30-35 watts is good for starting out and can crank loud enough for a tiny bar or coffee house if needed- yet still small enough to play in a room/apartment or dorm without getting anybody else angry at you- plus many now have headphone outputs!
now- for strings.. I would say that DR and Dean Markley- 9 or 10 gauge electric sets are pretty standard for the hard rock sound and are great strings for Les Paul-type guitars.
Hope this helps!

Whatever you do, do not buy a marshal MG or a Line 6 spider. Both are overpriced for what they offer. Both of those companies make excellent products, but neither of those products are excellent.

Dude, just make sure to get a guitar with humbuckers, not single coils, if you wanna play metal. Also, if you intend to play in a band or practice with your buddies, get an amp with at least... say 40 Watt, or else you're screwed if you have a drummer.

Epiphones are good...but if you can, play it first, before buying. They are having a lot of hiccups at their newest dedicated Chinese plant-lots of quality issues. If you can get an older one out of Unsung, Korea you should have a decent guitar. I have one from there (a Sheraton II) and an Indonesian Epiiphone Wildkat. I like the Wildkat better than my 3 Gibson guitars in truth-and they cost alot more...because of labor. Most of the price difference these days between Gibson and Epiphone is labor related. Sure-Gibson materials are definitely superior; for instance, Epi stock humbuckers are no way as clear and strong in output then Gibson 'buckers. (Epiphone P90's are an other matter though...I think they equal Gibson or come very close...I have both in my house to compare with too) woods are not of the same quality...Gibson gives you a one piece neck, Epi usually a 3...they(Epi) use Polyurethane rather than Nitro Cellulose-and some times they shellac that stuff on there pretty thick too! But all in all, Epiphone is a good way to go. Also, they are prime for upgrading. You can get 90% of a Gibson Les Paul after a pick up swap and switching out pots and wiring (also a cost cutting measure Epi takes). It will sound like the real thing.

Amps:
I use an Epiphone Blues Custom 30 watt. It cuts through a drummer no problem-but maybe not a hard pounding metal style skins smacker. It's an excellent amp-also plays in 15 watt class A . 30 watt is in Class AB. It's 100% tube powered with a rectifier (which is just AWESOME) and has reverb on both channels. I also have a couple older Ampeg Superjets which are nice.
If you go with a Fender tube amp too-you won't be going wrong.

The Peavey tube Amps are not at all a bad way to go either. Also, check out Blackheart-though you'll need to be mic'ed...they are all pretty low wattage.

Bass and guitar are 2 different animals. IMO Bass is harder-you have more responsibility and the instrument itself is more physically demanding. The roles and approach are totally different-which is why you should play both. I've been plunkking at bass over the last year to try and record some of my songs, and while I am no bass player yet-or ever probably-it has helped my guitar playing out alot as a matter of perspective. I am much more rythmn minded during a guitar solo now...I find that I "listen" better as a result of my efforts with bass.

On money, I thought I passed a money tree on the way in here...now where was that....?

Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ritchie Blackmore, and Ywingie Malmsteem all use single coils.

You don't need humbuckers to play metal.

And not very good value for money either.
Both tend to be overpriced

I might suggest you aim to get a pair of amps that are clean at high volumes, then you can use any stereo effects you want. If you want distortion, get a good distortion effect. You could also get an integrated amp-modeling digital-effects system to plug into your speakers.

If you really want authentic distortion or a particular sound, though, you'll want to go with one of the classic choices, like Marshall, Mesa/Boogie, Fender, etc. Consider buying a good classic amp used in that case.

Keep in mind that wattage isn't everything - it's a fact of physics that a 100W amp is only 3dB louder than a 10W amp! Besides, if you really end up needing lots of volume, you will most likely be mic'ing your amp or plugging right into a mixing board for a power amp system.

In my experience the best thing to do is to buy a 50 watt tube amp and run it through a half stack so the tubes are always being driven just a bit and you then get an exquisite tone from your guitar. Even if you are micing you want to run this way and no one but rich folks can afford to mic everything through a pa when just practicing that's only at gigs and even then you will want to go with what I am saying. As far as distortion your amp should have the gain you need and when you push the volume those tubes will warm up more and give a great overdriven sound. Trust me this is the best way to go.
