![]() (He threw several dozen picks into the audience, so it's not that special, but still...) I went to see the Unholy Alliance Chapter III last Friday - which meant Amon Amarth, Mastodon, Trivium and... SLAYER. Amon Amarth kicked off, not playing a very long set. Next were Mastodon, whose rhythm guitarist was in hospital (which meant they made less noise ) - they couldn't really get the crowd enthousiastic, and I found it very hard to hear the rhythm in their songs, partly because the drummer was playing fills all the time... still, respect for the other guitarist, who played a 12string with distortion. ![]() Enter Trivium - they were a lot better than I had imagined, and afterwards, some people even found their show better than Slayer's. Anyway, Trivium were ecstatic about the crowd; they said we were the best audience they'd seen so far on the European leg of this third Unholy Alliance tour. And then Slayer, of course. Their show was fucking great - I screamed along to the songs I knew -, and so were the mosh pits. Unfortunately, a crowd surfer I hadn't seen coming landed on my head, which meant I couldn't let myself go entirely - it hurt for quite a while. At the end, however, their playing "Angel Of Death" gave me new energy, and catching one of Hanneman's picks made my night. It was also very funny to see that the amps had been arranged in the shape of two giant inverted crosses hanging from the ceiling. ![]()
