As I said in my first ever post here, I jump between favourite genres of music and at the time I was exploring various styles of punk. I've been in a sortof music rut for quite a while now (besides excessive amounts of Queen and compiling various sleep and mood playlists), but I've finally really got into something new.

I really like what's classified in my itunes as 'hard rock', possibly also classed as heavy metal. Can anyone recommend me similar bands to AC/DC, Accept, Wolfmother, Buckcherry maybe (come across v sleazy, but they've got a good beat), possibly Black Sabbath (not quite what I'm looking for, but reasonably similar?

Would be very grateful for good suggestions Help me fill up my xmas list!

P.S. Thanks to meanceprimeaux for introducing me to Accept (amongst other bands) a while ago.

Edit - Also, if someone could recommend albums of the bands I mentioned (particularly AC/DC), that'd be great too. Definitely planning on getting Balls to the Wall - Accept.

Sorry to edit again but I just came across this and rather than making a new post, I decided to shove it in here - The song (Balls to the Wall) has also been featured on two VH1 countdown shows: as #38 on the 40 Greatest Metal Songs, and as #29 on the 40 Most Awesomely Bad Metal Songs Ever.

Wtf? I like it anyway.

You should listen to Jackyl. I thought they were AC/DC for a long time. Well, fine, like four minutes into the first song I heard from them, but still...

The Strokes - Is This It
May not be as "hard" as you may like, but it's pretty straightforward rock with a hint of retro rock tossed in.

Guns N Roses - Use Your Illusion I and II, Appetite for Destruction
This should be right up your alley

Marilyn Manson - Antichrist Superstar

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
One of the top 10 best albums ever, a bit alternative but it rawks.

Jackyl is some good stuff. Maybe try some Kix or Saxon I'll have to think up a few others that are good..

Ok, for AC/DC style of hard rock or metal- I would say
Nazareth. - especially "Hair of the Dog" is an awesome song with lots of AC/DC style chords- phrasing, lyrics and attitude.

Jet- these guys are sonding pretty cool on some songs.

Definitley- THE CULT - they had some stuff that was balls-out hard rock with a lot of the AC/DC swagger.. artfully mixed with psychedelia and the somtimes groove of a trance-dance beat -but 100% amazing rock.
I suggest Little Angel or Love Removal Machine.. you could get the best of the Cult (thesingles) and seriously rock yer rolls off.

Nazareth is definitely a good choice.

For a more bluesy band, check out the Black Keys. I love them. Rubber Factory and Thickfreakness are great albums.

You should check out the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. Saxon was the first name that I thought of (and they're from the same region as you, lol), but don't forget Diamond Head and early Judas Priest, either.

Rep Power: 46 BlackDeth54 will become famous soon enough

First thing first "Hard Rock" is not metal second "Heavy Metal" Consists of Bands like Iron Maiden and Venom.

And third I agree any NWOBHM band would be great and yes Iron maiden is kickass

and remember hair metal isnt really metal so no motley crue or whatever the hell

Oh yeah by the way NWOBH is New wave of british heavy metal.
