Hi, while I was saving a song recorded with audacity my computer crashed and I lost the “aup” file. The “data” file is intact. How can I recreate a “aup” file for the “data”? Thank you.

I am not sure if you can. The aup file is the data as far as audacity is concerned [it is the proprietary format audacity uses]
this is the relevant partof the help files anyway http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help...crash-recovery good luck |

I've used Audacity as well, and found many problems with it such as crashes and plugins and VST's not working so I quickly went back to Goldwave and have never really used Audacity again since. So if you find yourself continually frustrated with Audacity, I highly recommend Goldwave. But before expecting to have stable results from any audio editing software, make sure your PC isn't ancient. If your PC is fairly up to date (2.4ghz 1MB RAM and a decent sound card) you shouldn't have any issues because of your PC and you can usually bet that it's because of the software.

Yep. The aup is xml. With lots of patience, you could rebuild one. But once again, it'll be very time consuming. Musicman-> what kind of issues did you have with audacity? (I only use it for basic recording, and do the real editing on cubase, due to cubase's unstable behaviour) |

![]() As for my issues with Audacity, I found it pretty limited compared to Goldwave as far as built-in editing features and their quality. I also remember it crashing for no particular reason at extremely unfortunate times such as when I had spent 3 hours editing a piece and was doing the final propagations or even trying to save the file and close the program. I liked the idea that you could find VST plugins and import them, but most of the ones I found either didn't work, had an impossible to understand UI (sometimes even written in german or very broken engrish), or provided results that were nowhere near what they said they would do (like vocoders that only produced a little delay and a flange effect that sounded like doodoo). So after a week or so of trying to make it work, I happily went back to Goldwave and have used it for the majority of my work. ![]()

True. I use audacity only for the recording (since it uses less cpu than the rest), and then import the tracks on cubase for all the rest. But for just recording it works quite well for me.

Audacity is a "utility knife" recording and editing program. It's got the very basics and no more (except for the obligatory swathes of LAPSDA plugins). If you're looking for a full featured free and open source DAW, try Ardour. Lots of info in my sig link or check ardour.org.

Just make the switch, you can dual boot and keep your current windows install. I sometimes use my old xp to play games or work on very old projects in Cubase, but Ubuntu Studio is where it's at.

True, and even, many modern games run great on linux with wine, or even have native ports. Some music software as well (guitar pro). The problem is still the same: hardware compatibility for "exotic" devices. But for the rest, it's worth trying.
