Welcome to KMA!
![]() Short Answer: Yamaha Motif's and Korg Triton Studios will blow your mind at how real they sound....BUT they're VERY expensive. Long Answer: If you're only looking for a FEW instruments to sound really good, some of those digital pianos that only have a few samples like strings, a couple of grand piano settings, a couple organs, etc.... might work for you. They're usually more affordable, but you can't do as much with them as you can with a huge workstation type of keyboard. It really just depends on your budget, and what you need (not necessarily want) out of a keyboard. Check out local music stores though and try some of the Yamaha DG (I think) series. DG-500 comes to mind as a pretty good affordable option. And there's quite a few options for around $1000 or less if you're mainly just looking for a basic sample set that sounds really good and will feel like a real piano.

What MM and Aqua said, but also, check the yamaha PSR's, they do many sounds, and are not very expensive (200-500$)

Also, if money is an issue, I recommend searching craigslist. You can of course research whatever is for sale and read reviews on the sound quality. I found some good deals doing this.

I'm going to have to shoot down the idea of a Yamaha PSR. The only good I ever got out of mine was the workout I got walking from my house to the nearest dumpster. It had some cool drum samples to play along with but it got old quick.
What budget would you looking at? And also would you rather a regular keyboard workstation or a more authentic piano-esque setup? This little baby here has been getting all of my love lately. ![]() http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...nch?sku=707071 The price is kind of hefty, but that's honestly about as low as the market goes for products that are actually worth the buck. You'll still save THOUSANDS going with that sort of option rather than an actual Yamaha upright or stage piano. Demo: |
