Any maiden fans around here? I have yet to find someone that actually doesn't like them, they are the gods of metal. They are the best, period. So what are your favorite Iron Maiden albums/songs. I'd say my favorite song is Paschendale(Dance of Death) and my favorite album is Brave New World.

They're decent, but I wouldn't call them the gods of metal. Just not my style of metal... *shrugs*

Iron Maiden never was my cup of tea, but there are some things you have to respect about them. They had a die-hard fanbase that bought everything they put out. They put on a hell of a show for their era, and knew the value of gimmicks and marketing. While I don't find their music great, a lot of metal fans do, and since I'm not a pure metal type of guy, I'll assume that their taste in metal is better than mine.

Not to mention they're still putting out albums the same, if not better, quality as they always did. They're not the kind of band that dies out over time.

Yeah, I was never into "pure" metal, either. I like pop-metal, and what I guess you might call symphonic metal. Real metal, though, just tries my patience some how.

Although Iron Maiden may have such a strong fan base, other metal bands do as well. I don't know about putting out new albums, though. You might have a point there, inferno.

I'd have to disagree, Metal in general has the 'die-hard' fans, but Maidens fans seem to be the strongest of all, in the sense that they will support the band no matter what. Bands like Metallica , don't have that at all.

Oh really? I didn't know that. (Of course that's not going to make me flip flop and start calling them the Gods of Metal, but it's definitely admirable that they have such a strong base.)

Im really not sure if your right or not. I cant prove you wrong, But i cant help but feel that a lot of bands have a extremely large fan base just like iron maiden. Anyone else feel this way?

Ok, maybe not too many maiden fans out here.

Their latest album is actually one of my favorites. Most bands as old as Iron Maiden die out with their age.

I like Maiden, but not as much as most of my friends. I'm more of a Helloween person myself. Dance of Death was an awesome album, but the cover was horrible! It looks decent from a distance, but get a good look at it and there are some pretty big problems.

Still good music though. My favorite song by them has got to be either Prowler or Fear of the Dark.

OOOH, a chance to gush about Maiden? I'm down!

I LOVE Iron Maiden. Definitely one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite band. I've seen them on tour 4 times, and every performance is awesome, despite the fact that they're getting 'up there' in age. I've also found that the crowd is VERY nice, which isn't always the case here in Phoenix at rock shows. They put on a DAMN good show, but I enjoy their recorded stuff just as much.

I think comparing Maiden to other types of metal just doesn't make sense, as they really have a very unique sound and are dissimilar to other bands. One of the things I love so much about them is that their lyrics are very interesting to listen to, and often are based on classical literature, history, etc.

Favorites? On albums, I'd have to go with:
-Piece of Mind
-Brave New World (I was impressed, as most 'older' bands put out crappy new albums these days)
-Somewhere in Time
-self-titled
-The Number of the Beast

Killers is great too, but it's a VERY different sound for the band without Dickinson.

For songs:
-The Evil that Men Do
-Rime of the Ancient Mariner
-Flight of Icarus
-Charlotte the Harlot (and of course, 22 Acacia Avenue )
-Phantom of the Opera
-Dream of Mirrors
-Murders in the Rue Morgue

Is anyone a crazy enough fan to have the Eddie's Head boxed set? I want this SO bad, but I didn't buy it when it first came out, and I haven't seen it since.

Whew, glad I got that out of my system. Nice thread.

Haha, wow those are my three favorite albums as well. In order though I'd put them Brave New World, Piece of Mind, Somewhere in Time.

WOW, Brave New World at the top, huh? I agree that it's awesome, but I don't think I could call it my favorite. Dream of Mirrors is definitely a contender for best song, though - especially when performed live!
