So, after well over a year of being teased, Radiohead finally released their newest album, "The King of Limbs".
And it's almost utter shite.
Let's forget for a fact that Radiohead have not made a 'bad' album since The Bends came out and no, Pablo Honey does not count. And while Hail To the Thief isn't as acclaimed as their prior albums nor as much as it's follow-up, In Rainbows, it is still a brilliant album in it's own right.
The King of Limbs, as both a follow-up and a stand alone recording, is mediocre at best. Everything about the album is predictable and bland, starting with the god-awful title.
The King of Limbs

Come on. Really. Seriously. Come on. We get it, you're fucking weird. Seriously. Come on.

The track listing for The King of Limbs is as follows:

1. Bloom (05’14)
2. Morning Mr Magpie (04’40)
3. Little By Little (04’27)
4. Feral (03’12)
5. Lotus Flower (05’00)
6. Codex (04’46)
7. Give Up the Ghost (04’50)
8. Separator (05’20)
Eight songs. On one hand, I welcome short-length albums. It's refreshing and easy to listen to them and a lot of bands' downfall is recording albums and putting 14 songs on them making the listen nothing but exhausting to say the least.
On the other hand, THEY MADE US WAIT THIS LONG FOR 8 SONGS?
Now, the problem here isn't that there are only 8 songs and 37 minutes of music. The problem is, the first 5 of them are garbage, entirely forgettable and incredibly shallow, weak 'songs'. The production is great, but the actual songs? Please. And if you have seen anything off of "The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth of All Time", you'd know and agree that they've ruined "Morning Mr.Magpie" somethin' bad. Also, why the hell would you record what is pretty much a B-Side FROM TWO ALBUMS AGO. "Nude" was different. Go download any mp3s you can of that song from 1997 on, then download it off of "In Rainbows". That song needed to nailed perfectly and I fully understand the frustration of nearly 10 years worth of trying to get it right. It ended up fucking gorgeous (even if it sounds like Ariel's vocal melody from Disney's The Little Mermaid at the end of it). That's a special case. But what made "Morning M'Lord" so great was that it was this raw, in your face acoustic song with some really great chord stuructures, that sounded fucking AWESOME the way it was. Now it's just a bland rip-off of itself. It's not until "Codex" that this album starts to find itself but by then it is way too late. "Give Up the Ghost" oh man, I've never heard anyone say that before, let alone sing about it, pssh! And at this point, I can't even recall what "Seperator" sounds like, all I remember is that it's the first closing track in a while that didn't quite close up one of their albums proper. This is due to the fact that the last 3 songs all flow into each other almost seamlessly, making them sound like one track.
Not so much crap as it is a giant turd. Of course, you're going to read all sorts of reviews about how great it is, how Radiohead continue to innovate and lead the way as far as that and whatever else goes. Ha. If it weren't for the fact that this is actually a Radiohead album, it might have been forgivable. But that fact that it is makes it that much worse. I award them no points and will repeat something I said at another point in another thread on these here forums:
Radiohead, you can shut up.

I actually still haven't had the chance to listen to this album yet. Thanks for the review, I may add my own when I get the chance to listen to it.

No disrespect, but I disagree with you completely.
The album's roots come from the mysteries and fantasies of creatures that dwell in the woods, the forgotten creatures and mythologies, legends of the bracken. The feeling the album portrays is just that, a deep clouded mist, open to the interpretation of each listener's imagination.

Radiohead are one band that no matter how much people may hate on them they'll still do what they do, record label or not and this is a great example of pure originality and prime production.

The King of Limbs may not be your cup of tea but I won't stand for it being called a "giant turd". Forward is the only direction to follow and Radiohead are continuing to push the limits of popular music.

that whole statement is lol. Seriously. And you're talking to one of the biggest Radiohead fanboys you could ever come across.

Pure originality? Try self-referencing, self-plagarizm and cruise-control. They've locked themselves into the position of being jerked-off by everyone. Look at it like this: In Rainbows is one of the best albums I have ever heard. The King of Limbs is a joke in comparison. And no, they don't get away with being compared to themselves. This album does anything but push the limits of popular music. Go listen to The National's High Violet, Cut Copy's Zonoscope, or christ, even Coldplay's Viva La Vida if you want to hear progressing "popular" music.

Push the limits of popular music. Seriously. So. Having Timbaland help you with your beats means you're pushing the limits of popular music? Then that would mean The Black Eyed Peas are as well. And that band that's like "It's too late to pologize. Too laaaate." And Ke$ha. And Rihanna. And Enrique Eglasias.

Seriously. Notghing about The King of Limbs is "pushing" anything, except a rectum push of the turd it is.

EDIT: SERIOUSLY WTF.

Okay. I'm going to add more to this but even if this is a hint, I do not appreciate being fucked with.

Apparently, there will be or already is a King of Limbs Part 2*EDIT*And maybe even a part3. This doesn't change the fact that this potential "Part 1" a mediocre album at best. And no, making 2 more albums to make it a trilogy WILL NOT change this fact. So now, Radiohead are both making mediocre music AND fucking with us. We can play these songs backward all we want. More to come.

haha

LOL I love the gif of Thom shooting Beiber.

This is the first I've heard of this, it certainly is intriguing. I'll have to make the time to listen to TKOL this weekend, still haven't gotten around to it.

Haha, yeah, Thom shooting Beiber is hilarious but I laughed my arse of at Radiohead: LOL Trees.

The album is short but twitchy and boring until Codex, like I mentioned.

Sorry to keep posting but seriously, haha.

And that blog has been updated, this is the new link:

http://thekingoflimbspart2.com/

And there's a ton of new information/conspiracy crap.

And yes, I know that I'm basically full-on taking part in this grand scheme, if you've read that blog and about TKOL, then you'd know I'm just a pawn.

And yes, we are being fucked with (and yes, it is funnay). And apparently I am too, just take note of that pic in this post.

And yes, I'm being harsh and judgmental of TKOL. Hearing new stuff is always a pleasure and my distaste has a lot more to it than simply being disappointed with what I've heard so far. I'll tell the story some time,(lol funny story exhausting Radiohead)

Just a quick update, there will be no part 2. How disappointing. So they drop hints and deceive us and give us less than they should be willing to release and all it was, was a silly newspaper, Thom caught on camera making rather odd and awkward facial expressions and noises and an "official release" of the album and, get this, 2 B-Sides! Did I miss something? This is their "revolutionary" release strategy? Doing it no different? Maybe I don't get it? Or did I miss something?
