I just Purchased " John Mayer " - CONTINUUM the C.D. has some laid back
music, one of the Songs "Gravity" John sings about how gravity is trying to bring him down ,
Gravity
Has taken better Men than Me
Now how can that Be?
Just keep Me where the Light is
Keep Me where the Light is .

Gravity
Stay the Hell away from Me

John, also Has a Political Song
"Waiting on the World to Change"
Now we see Everything that's going Wrong
With the World and Those who Lead It
We just feel like we don't have the Means
To Rise above and Beat It

Cool! I've always liked Mayer. I don't like his romantic-girlie-pop songs, but he's a great guitarist that plays a lot of styles. His blues stuff is really good, and I might give this CD a listen as long as all the songs don't sound like "Your Body is a Wonderland".

I'm pretty sure my roommate listens to that song all the time. it definitely sounds familiar and, while I'm not familiar enough with John Mayer to identify his work, I think I remember thinking "this sounds like that one guy" and by "that one guy" I'm pretty sure I meant John Mayer. If that made any sense at all.

John Mayer is absolutely extraordinary.

I have to agree with MusicMan, because I don't fancy he's girl pop ballads either. But his guitarstyle is fantastic, actually I will say he's one of a kind. An own sound you just experience once in a decade, like SRV, Eric Clapton and good old Django for instance. I have no doubts in calling him this "speical one" for this decade...

Maybe you knew, but if not... John is a great admirer of Thom Yorke. Actually he did a part of "The Eraser" (The song) in the middle of his own "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room". This youtube-clip is from that live appearance, where John played at the Webster Hall.

If you don't like John Mayer at all, you can just rattle forward to 4.15, where the "The Eraser"-part starts.

Enjoy.

Cool, thanks for the heads-up. I'm watching Van Morrison on Austin City Limits now and will watch Mayer on Letterman.

Is it just me or do John Mayer and Dave Matthews have very similar sounds?

Yeah, some of his stuff does sound a little like Dave Matthews Band. Lately though he mostly reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughan. After seeing him on Letterman earlier, his voice really sounds more bluesy than I remember and was like a mix of a lot of SRV and a little Dave Matthews.

That's how I tell who it is. I hear him and I always think "Oh, that's Dave Matthews!" and then realise it's John Mayer. But I never recognise Dave Matthews. In other words, John Mayer sounds more like Dave Matthews than Dave himself.

I love that song, but I'm not entirely sure if it's political. Maybe I'm just silly and don't know the definition of that word (hey, I'm opening myself up for criticism here! ATTACK!) but the song seems so...I don't know, focused on morals and the issues with the values the world has today. Like,

"And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want"

Of course then you have the parts about bringing your neighbors home from war and...yeah okay so maybe it's political. I dunno.

HEY! Good song!

That news is devastating because I have thought that John Mayer is one of the most original voices I have heard since Bob Seger or Roger Waters. JMIO.
Sorry if this is a double post but the forum is acting strange this morning.
