I'm sure some of you have heard of the Radiohead Kid A album, and how if you play two copies 17 seconds apart they sync up and compliment each other. Thom Yorke (lead singer of Radiohead) announced that it was intentional, and a few people have created accurate mixes that line up perfectly. I am in the process of creating my own mix because some of the ones out there are close but not exactly 17 seconds. And if it's not exact, you lose a lot of the syncopation. So if anyone else would like to hear this let me know and I'll either PM you or if enough people want it I may just post it for everyone to see.

Update:

Here are individual tracks of the mixes I've created. The original is on one channel and the delayed version is on the opposite channel (left and right). So you can pan your balance to adjust the mix even more on your own. I'll add the new mixes to this post as they roll in hot off of the audio editing software.

EDIT (8-28-07): Wow, 25,000+ uniques and a million hits in the past 24 hours, mainly because of a link to this thread from a popular link site. The links were lost a while back but I'm now uploading these again as attachments, which only members will be able to stream or download. So if you're a guest and you really want to hear them, register real quick and we would love you to stick around and comment on them or contribute to the many great discussions we have here at KMA. If someone wants to host them offsite for others to listen to that don't feel like joining here (it's free, but some people are lazy ), send me a PM and I may or may not give you permission to. Thank you for your interest in my remixes, check the links in my sig for others I've done as well as some original songs.

I've got two up now, I'll add the other two by tomorrow.

In all honesty, I don't even care that much for Radiohead but I would love to hear that. Not saying I hate them or anything, they're actually a great band, they're just not my type of music.

I ended up trashing my full-album mix because if you don't mix it one track at a time, it starts to lose sync because of the time in between songs. It's kinda hard to explain but here's what I'll do. I'll create a mix of a song or two and then let you guys know when I've got a decent mix. I'll PM you

Haha, glad you all are getting the chance to check this out! I'm uploading the first track "Everything in its Right Place" right now and I'll continue mixing down the other tracks as I get the time. So stay tuned to this thread for the tracks.

Eureka! I've just discovered why the whole album wouldn't sync up right! Track 3 has been very difficult, so after toying around for an hour I've discovered that it syncs up PERFECTLY (even every single drumbeat, it's amazing!) if and only if it's timed 21 seconds apart, not 17 seconds like the others! OMG I can't wait to share this one with ya.

Just finished and uploaded Track #3 "The National Anthem"

Just added track #6 "Optimistic". This one was extremely tricky. I got to the heart of the mathematics of the recurring phrases and motifs and found that they were in sections of 6.075 seconds. So after experimenting for a while I found the best arrangement was to sync them 12.15 seconds apart.

http://www.keepmusicalive.com/MusicManTrack6KidAmix.mp3

I'm starting to see that the 17 seconds isn't a rule of thumb and not many people, if any, have really investigated this enough to produce good results. This is kinda fun knowing that nobody else has published detailed results and spent enough time to find the right pieces to the puzzle, not just shave some corners off and make random pieces fit. Hopefully I'll have the best mixes out there in internetlandvilletowncity.

I might try that sometime. I need to work on this some more, I might have some more additions later today.
