Here at KMA, we are interested in having an intelligent and helpful online community. We have always had various policies and guidelines in place to ensure that we would grow to be the best music forum on the web, but a lot of these policies and rules have not always been easy to find, especially for new members who don't lurk before posting. We felt it was time to gather all of these rules and guidelines and assemble them into one easy to find thread, and here it is!
Following these guidelines will not only help KMA continue to be the undisputed #1 music forum online, but it will also help you become a well-respected member here, and people will look forward to your posts and be friendly and helpful with you. ![]() 1. If you're only here to spam or shamelessly self-promote some website you started, you will get HellBanned. (Being hellbanned is like being cast into the fiery depths of virtual hell. Your senses will deceive you in a way that your mind will eat itself from the inside out, and you will be rendered nothing more than a vegetable unable to feed yourself, much less continue doing whatever you did here that got you HellBanned. )We do not offer free advertising. If a moderator determines your posts to be spammish in nature, they will get deleted and you may be banned.(a) We have a minimum post count for links. It is not okay to post meaningless or off-topic posts just to inflate your post count - if you really care about helping our community grow, you should have no trouble reaching the minimum post count. (b) Of course, outside links that actually add to our content and are relevant to the forums are allowed. This judgement will be made at moderator discretion. 2. This forum is a great resource for musicians to get feedback for their music. The appropriate way to do this is to upload your music to the MusicShowcase. Linking to other sites that have your music on it turns KMA from a good resource for musicians into a mere link board, which is not good. That's why we'll be pretty strict on having you upload at least a song or two if you actually want feedback. 3. No violent or prejudicial language or personal attacks are tolerated in the forum. If a moderator sees posts like this, he or she will delete them immediately, but sometimes the moderators don't see posts right away. If you see a post like this, report it! Don't make things worse by breaking the rules yourself in order to retaliate. 4. Which brings us to armchair moderating - the moderators are the only people allowed to moderate. It's okay to make suggestions or help other members, but don't order or direct other members inappropriately. You are not the moderator. 5. Multiple accounts are usually not allowed. Creating multiple accounts just to talk to yourself in a thread is considered spam. Creating multiple accounts to try to cover up or disguise your advertising is also not allowed. If you have to create a multiple account because you can't remember which username you had a long time ago, let a staff member know right away so we don't lock the duplicate account. 6. Good grammar and punctuation help us continue to attract intelligent members and really show potential members that we are an intelligent and respectable community. We therefore request that all our members use appropriate grammar, punctuation, and spelling to the best of their ability. That means capitalizing the personal "I", using apostrophes in contractions, and generally not writing like the only grammar education you've had was on myspace. We recognize that we have a lot of foreign members, so moderators have a lot of discretion. Remember, though - you have to be at least 13 years old to join an online community. There's really no way to verify your age, and we would rather be safe than sorry. Since you have to be at least 13, following these grammar rules shouldn't be too hard. If you're having trouble with it, we'll probably assume you're less than 13 years old and lock your account. 7. Do not upload any copyrighted material, unless you own the copyright. If you're using something under the creative commons or fair use policies, be prepared to provide authorization documentation. Deleting, moving, and closing posts or threads is up to the discretion of the moderators, but if you feel you have been treated unfairly you can contact the staff member who corrected/moved/deleted your post or thread. But it would be wise to have a good attitude when doing so, and to present your case in a reasonable manner. Being abusive will only get you banned. After contacting a moderator and the decision was not reversed, if you still feel an error has been made, you may contact MusicMan. But 99.9% of the time, I (MusicMan) will agree with the decisions of the other staff. So don't contact me just to "go over the moderator's head" if your argument does not contain a fair amount of logic. If you're just wanting to whine or be a thorn in my side, I cannot be held responsible for the wrath you will incur. It is also your responsibility to be familiar with the Terms of Service and to comply with everything contained therein. Some other links you might find helpful are the Frequently Asked Questions; the Music Showcase Guidelines, including a description of how to upload your music; and a thread describing How to Embed YouTube Videos. Also check out your User CP, where you can change your avatar, signature, email address, etc.; and the Site Feedback forum where you can ask any site-related question or give suggestions about the site. Thanks Aqua
![]() Also worth noting is that the original post was composed by all of the staff, so if you see "I, Musicman will....." in Aqua's post, that was indeed me writing that and not Aqua having a mental breakdown. ![]()

I'd like to make an addendum and state that we are relaxing our enforcement of the grammar and leetspeak clauses. This will most likely result in a couple of scenarios....
More people may stick around a bit longer if we don't harp on them for terrible spelling and typing, which could be a good or bad thing. They may find that their posts are so shitty that nobody ever replies to them and they may realize their errors and correct them in an attempt to salvage their reputation and be a respected member of the community. It could also just lead to a string of 100 posts that are unreadable and I may ban them for being terrible posters after a while, sort of a cumulative effect that results in me losing my patience and getting rid of them, but I'll try and be more relaxed until it's apparent that that particular member will never be a respected member here at KMA. So if you members want to enforce things a little on your own, do so in a similar manner. More carrot less stick, reminding them that their reputation here is largely based on the quality of their posts, and the best way to enjoy their stay here is to not be the guy whose posts look like he sprinkled catnip on his keyboard and let his cat roll around on it to make a post. Thank you, that is all for now. ![]()
