I love hearing good live bands. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Disturbed all have good live albums/songs. I figured I'm listening to Metallica's S&M and thought I'd post a couple of my favorite live songs and albums and ask that you do the same.
Fade to Black - Disturbed - Music As A Weapon, Vol. 2 Phantom of the Opera - Iron Maiden - Life After Death Sign of the Cross - Iron Maiden - Rock in Rio Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd - Pulse Master of Puppets - Metallica - S&M One - Metallica - S&M Thunderstruck - AC/DC - AC/DC Live The Man Who Stole the World - Nirvana - Live and Unplugged All Apologies - Nirvana - Live and Unplugged Best of You - Foo Fighters - Skin and Bones Fine Again - Seether - One Cold Night St. Jimmy - Green Day - Bullet in a Bible Holiday - Green Day - Bullet in a Bible Last edited by 3mag5num7 : 02-10-2008 at 04:55 PM. |

Personally, I don't like live CD's. If I want to listen to a CD, I want the best possible sound. That's not feasable live. If I want to listen to a band live, I'll go and see them live. Ok, that's not possible for Pantera anymore, but you get what I mean.

I do like Alice Cooper's live CDs, too, though. It might be subconsious because they remind me of that time I saw him live, but if you like live CDs and Alice Cooper, it's a good one to have. |

About a month ago I would've agreed with you guys completely, but lately I've really been getting into live albums, garage rock, unplugged, and accoustic music. I dunno, I just like the raw/emotional/powerful feel they give off...

Well, I do have many Iron Maiden live's, but still, I prefer the studio ones.

Hahahaha! Says the guy who listens to black metal. Seriously though, I agree. I usually prefer my live music live. One exception though is with bands like Dream Theater, where I'll be getting plenty of improvised solos and jams in my songs. Then live cds are awesome.

But, have you ever heard a Black Metal band live CD? That's... even worse than my recording of "Sensorium", without mixing, without nothing! I guess you're beginning to understand why I prefer studio CD's... |

It completely depends on the artist, song and the moment it was recorded. I have several different KISS live and studio cds as well as dvds- I prefer the raw emotion and excitement in some of the live recordings over the studio tracks- especially with the explosions and interaction between band and audience. The later years stuff doesn't do it as well as the early years. Same thing goes for Maiden- I like the earlier stuff over the Rock in Rio and later stuff live- it just captures the moments better. Some band- like Dream Theater can do fantastic work live- especially with the Octavarium orchestra- but watching these guys on dvd is like watching grass grow- it's kinda boring as they don't really do anything on stage. Clapton is probably the worst- don't get me wrong, his sound live is as good as a studio recording, but he does not even seem to acknowledge the audience being there.I want a live recording and a live performance that really captures every moment of the band and audience- the whole essence of a live show- not some dork standing still playing guitar (if I want that I'd play in front of a mirror!)

i dislike listening to a band the first time live, because if they suck live, i start disliking their cd's because i think live is what matters

I'm the opposite sometimes. I started disliking listening to Sanctity's cds a bit after seeing them play with Symphony X. It was just so much better than the cds were. I'll still listen to them sometimes, but it just reminds me of how much better they are live.

Nine Inch Nails is usually very good live. They've got a few Live DVDs you should check out.
Pink Floyd's "Pulse" is a spectacle that even the gods give thanks for. Dave Matthews Band is nearly impossible to top as far as live performances. Damn good band, every member, and they're always on point. Pearl Jam is another awesome live band. I remember back around 2000 or so they did something amazing, they released like a ton of CD's, all live recordings of their tours. I bought 2 or 3 and they were gems, too bad I've lost them now. ![]()

This. I'm not the biggest Pink Floyd fan, but this is awesome.
