The two 15 minute ones worked pretty well when we played them out. The 25 minute tune we loved to play in practice, but held off on playing on stage...usually because we'd have a 30 minute set, and wanted to play more than one or two songs.
Finally, we played a show with a bunch of friends that someone locally had put together, and were given a 90 minute set. So, we decided to unleash the beast and play that damn song.
Heh, first 10 minutes or so were ok, but as it went on the crowd was getting tired of it...by the time the ending section came up people were dying for the song to just...freaking...end...
The one and only time we played that one live. I ended up ripping it up and recycling some riffs from it.
Oh, yeah...that thing about your finger sucks too.

Well, I think 10+ songs tend to fall under the catagory of progressive (hm, I have a feeling this thread will make chrispy want to beat me with my own shoes); meaning they have to be somewhat cutting edge and experimental or else they get boring as poo. And the thing about progressive art is, it's hard to pull off. If it was easy, it wouldn't be progressive. So yeah, its hard to write an "epic" that isn't duller than dirt in a dirt-farm, but that doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be done. Also, I'd guess unless you're in front ofa very specific audience, its hard to break out a 25 minute song that people are hearing for the first time and bring them along. Hell, I'm in love with Mars Volta's Cicatriz Esp right now, but if I'd heard it live for the first time I'm pretty sure I would have gone: "huh?
