i'm 18 years old and a guitarist. i play a wide genre of music, mainly, classic rock, blues and some old school thrash metal. i've always wanted to growl and sing but i'm quite unable to control my voice. whenever i record something, it sounds simply horrible! i can only sing low songs like lifehouse and stuff. anyways, today i was giving growling a shot and since i have no theoretical knowledge of how it works, i think i put too much pressure on my vocal cords. more importantly, i'm not sure what diaphragm breathing exactly is. i read on this site that i should start practicing with black sabbath songs so i gave it a shot. half way through, i couldnt do it anymore! i recorded the take and here's the link to it: [they wont let me post a link so please type this in]

sendspace dot com slash file slash czthuu

please remember that this is my first attempt EVER at growling so don't diss me lol. and any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated!

My advice is don't growl. It's overflooding most genres of heavy music and usually either sounds corny, like shit or both. It will get you nowhere except as the opening act for some shitty cover band in some toilet.
