I just recorded a video so I figured I should post it here. It's short, it's the first take, and I just stop playing at the end, but I'd love to know what you think. I'd really love critiques from other guitarists here, I know there are things I have missed since I've taught myself, so any tips you all may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and I hope you enjoy.

That's actually my favourite guitar song that you've done. Nice.

I liked the sliding, but it did remind me of something. Sometimes you hold a note and then slide down the fretboard, eh? I think it would make the song fuller if you held the notes a bit longer before sliding down. Sometimes you'll hold the note, slide down really quick, and then have a long pause before you start playing some more. And holding notes really gives the song some feeling.
Did that make sense? |

Yeah, I see what you mean. I didn't know you mean after the phrase was finished. I definately agree, its annoying. It's actually a bad habit that I developed a while ago that I sometimes do without noticing. Thanks for pointing it out, it will keep on getting out of that habit.

I really liked this! The TONE is amazing- has a nice "Santana" feel to it.. I would definitely say hold the notes a bit longer and give them some vibrato. I'm noticing something- sounds like string buzz or hum that REALLY becomes evident when you stop playing and start again- so that needs to be filtered out- sounds a bit like sitting to close to a really high gain amp or something buzzing in your guitar cable- can't quite place it. Overall the playing is very emotional and good! Also- yes..that slide thing others mentioned could be a bit much- but if you hold the note and give it some vibrato before going into the next phrase -that would probably work out beautifully!

The sound itself and the tune are very good. But you have the habit (I have it too) of sliding down at the end of each phrase. It makes the amp bump, and the bump is easier to hear that the rest, so the song is a bit less good. But still, if you remove that (which I guess is a playing mistake, not a composing one), it's quite good (And I'd be so happy to be able to write such kind of tunes!)

Nice vibrato man! I actually like the many slides. It's my theory that distorted guitar should be played energetically and moving a lot. Otherwise it sounds bullocks. If you add a small delay effect tail the down-slides sound amazing and you could incorporate rapid up-slides as well, Vai I hear using them a lot, to spice it up.
