Paint It Black COVER

Hey Guys,

I've just made a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black".
I did it my way, it's not really the same song, but as I said it before, in my opinion, that's the point of playing a cover : make your own song.

I hope you'll enjoy it, I spent about 4 hours to make it sound the way I want it to sound.
Man, I didn't even eat and I'm so hungry now

That's a pretty interesting cover of it. I like how you took that song and incorporated your own style so that it was still obviously a MCR recording. Good work.

I think that it would have taken me longer than 4 hours to lay down that song. Good job. I really liked the vocal layering that you did.

Has much effort, sounds like it was hard and time consuming. But I did not like it. I thought the recording was a little off. The guitar was a dimple quiet. The lyrics sounded a little choppy too. It was a good effort, and I think it could have been better.

Yeah I see what you mean, but believe me, I really tried to make it sound the best way possible (at least, technically, as I only have an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar), and I wanted it to sound different enough from the original song, so that I wouldn't be compared to The Rolling Stones

well, the song is nice, and still has enough similarities with the original one to be easily recognized. On the other hand, I fail to see the psychedelic on it. I guess by psyche you meant this kind of alien movie music with fx and stuff (tu vois, les sortes de violons electroniques qu'on entend souvent dans des films spatiaux), but didn't finally put them in. Maybe you can try using your recording app to add some fx to it, if you want the psyche part?

Not exactly what I meant, I actually had in mind some bands from the middle and late 60s (Electric Prunes, Kaleidoscope, etc.). The kind of band that used A LOT OF LSD

However, when you say black, your voice sometimes doesn't drop off far enough. Also, as RBBP said earlier, it sounds like you haven't turned up the bass enough on your guitar.

Great job with the backup vocals- those were sweet.

Yeah I know... Actually, I made like 3 or 4 songs plugging my amp to my sound card and I don't feel comfortable with this technique yet. I'm trying to make the whole thing sound better and better everytime I get to recording, so basically, the more I make songs, the more I learn tips, the more it sounds better. Mark my words

I know you're busy and maybe already gone back to your work, but I kept looking for more and more psychedelic bands, and would like to share them with you. I've got like 30 albums of some of the most obscure psychedelic bands of the middle and late 60s.

I bought some great albums in Nice (a french city) a few days ago, one of them called "Psychedelic Moods" by The Deep. I've been looking for this album since I read somewhere that it's actually the 1st album ever produced to have the word 'Psychedelic' in its title (then 1 month later came the Psychedelic Lolipop by The Blues Magoos, and finally The Psychedelic Sounds of The 13th Floor Elevators 2 weeks later after the blues magoos').

It's an amazing album, if you liked The Psychedelic Sounds of The 13th Floor Elevators, you should definitely look for it.

I found some other great bands there (the delicious self-titled album by Tomorrow, one of the most obscure psychedelic band I've ever bought called The Sweet Smoke, a great texan psych-bubblegum-pop band named The Fun and Games), and if I were allowed to, I'd upload you some of their best songs (which is totally forbiden here, isn't it ?

Nice one, Mycheaprecords! The melody and chord progression of the original are almost entirely absent - it's your own song, indeed. I liked the eerie guitar during the chorus a lot.
