From my opinion the question is wrong itself. Which of the songs is better - for sample Girl or Yesterday? I think we simply cannot compare songs or talent. How can we measure? Popularity? No, for example, after Bach died everybody had forgotten about him and only 100 years or so Mendelson rediscovered his music. Do you listen to Bach more often than to the Beatles? Does it mean anything? I think no. %)

OH MAN, THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THINK

Paul made all these horrible songs that really have this special thing which gives people headaches !!

John Lennon RULED the Beatles and was the creative one, dare I say the gifted one.

All these crappy songs you hear today with catchy and "headach-y" melodies, it's McCartney's legacy !!

I think there's only one McCartney's song that doesn't sound headachy : The End (Abbey Road). Kinda like McCartney's Happiness Is A Warm Gun in my opinion.

Some of those comments are far out.

Not acknowledging the talent of both is stupid. Not only were they talented, they were at the right place at the right time.

Anyway, i like Pauls song mostly, i still love many of John Lennons songs too.

I always Loved both McCartney / Lennon , they made great music together
as I was growing up Lennon's Lyrics was more meaningful in my Life , We
believed in the same things " Give Peace a chance " - " Working Class Hero "
I will point out Lennon's Lyrics back then was telling us that a lot of the World's
Problems ( violence ) are being Caused by Religion as they are Today .

Lennon just shades it for me, but both really became fantastic song writers, especially in the latter years of the Beatles. Sexy Sadie the best of the lot for me.

Well, I just have to say that I like Lennon in the Beatles, but McCartney in his solo. I will leave it at that, because this is a never ending argument.

Yep, totally serious. I enjoyed Paul's solo work quite a bit more than John's. People liked John because he was all political and stuff, whereas Paul was more about poppy subject matter, but musically, his stuff was a lot more intense.

I thought John sounded much more standard. "Temporary Secretary" was a weird-ass song.

Mister Marks Can You Find For Me
Someone Strong And Sweet Fitting On My Knee
She Can Keep Her Job If She Gets It Wrong
Ah, But Mister Marks I Won't Need Her Long
All I Need Is Help For A Little While
We Can Take Dictation And Learn To Smile
And A Temporary Secretary Is What I Need For To Do The Job

I Need A
Temporary Secretary, Temporary Secretary
Temporary Secretary, Temporary Secretary

Mister Marks Could You Send Her Quick
'Cause My Regular Has Been Getting Sick

I Need A
Temporary Secretary, Temporary Secretary

Mister Marks I Can Pay Her Well
If She Comes Along And Can Stay A Spell
I Will Promise Now That I'll Treat Her Right
And Will Rarely Keep Her 'Til Late At Night

I Need A ..

She Can Be A Belly Dancer
I Don't Need A Need Romancer
She Can Be A Diplomat
But I Don't Need A Girl Like That
She Can Be A Neurosurgeon
If She's Doin' Nothing' Urgent
What I Need's A Temporary, Temporary Secretary
I Need A, I Need A
Temporary Secretary. Temporary Secretary
Temporary Secretary, Temporary Secretary
Temporary Secretary, Temporary Secretary

Now Mister Marks When I Send Her Back
Will You Please Make Sure She Stays On The Right Track

Spoken: Well I Know How Hard It Is For Young Girls These Days In The Face Of Everything To Stay On
The Right Track

What I Need's A Temporary, Temporary Secretary
Temporary Secretary I Need A /
Temporary Secretary, Temporary Secretary,
Temporary Secretary I Need A
Temporary Secretary. Temporary Secretary,
Temporary Secretary.

Argggghhhhh!!!

Why would you point that out? Last I checked this was an opinions form and I'm not redundant enough to attach "imo" to the end of every comment I make.

Over the last couple of years of the Beatles, neither Lennon or McCarney (if my reading is correct) collaborated. In fact they often recorded their own songs without the other even appearing on it. Started way back during the Help recordings.
When the split, it's true they never seemed to be as successful as they were together. I doubt it was a case of the individual parts not being as good as the combined unit. In my mind, there was no weak link, but apart the competitive edge was blunted.
Time had moved on, record buying audiences wanted different, if not more.

They no longer wanted and seldom opted for the input of George Martin. That may have been a huge mistake.

I never really enjoyed the Wings period of McCartney, but at least he was still progressing.
Although his more recent material is OK,it is sad to see someone try to recreate the Blackbird period and struggle.

I found two interesting articles about this debate.

Article one: John vs Paul by last.fm

Article two: John vs Paul - which was a better song writer
