What is the relationship between Tool and A Perfect Circle? They're mentioned together so often it can't just be coincidence. Is A Perfect Circle good?

Leadsinger of both bands is the same. No other relation. Guitarist on second album was James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins.

Yeah, Maynard James Keenan is the singer for both projects. A Perfect Circle is a bit more mellow and experimental from what I've heard, although Tool has kinda mellowed over the years as well IMO.

From the perspective of an avid Tool and progressive rock fan, how would you say they stack up? Other than being more mellow and experimental as MusicMan said...

Different style really, still the same tone as tool lyrically and emotionally, but much more of a pure rock/metal feel though. Tool has a bit of a math-metal thing going on, you won't find that in APC, although their drummers/guitarists are still elite. The drummer in particular has some mad fills.

I think you'd enjoy them, but check out Mer de Noms first... It's the only album of theirs I like at all.

I think you might like it Tully, hit me up on MSN sometime for a sample. Some of it's pretty "Alternative" sounding, and some is quite melodic.

Ok, thanks for the tip. I'll look at that album first.

Sweet... if you're tempted to stop before you get to track 5 don't...

It's a pretty decent track.
