The Bands:
Shadow Demon Waking Hour Epica Kamelot Team Zephyr Dave (Zephyr) Jory Donnie Ray (Razorblade001) The Story Background: Sometime around February, Jory told me that Kamelot would be playing in Seattle some time in October. I knew that I had to go. At that time, I had only heard their latest album, The Black Halo, but I could tell they totally rock. A few weeks ago, we finally set our plans to go see them with Epica and Waking Hour. As a bonus, we knew that Simone Simons of Epica did some duets with Kamelot on The Black Halo. The Trip: The ride up there was tough. It took us quite a while to get to Studio Seven because we got lost at more than one point. Fortunately we eventually made it there, only thirty minutes late. Phase One: Shadow Demon When we arrived, a smaller band, Shadow Demon, was playing. From what I can tell they were some fairly heavy Power Metal with some definite Thrash influences. Ray got their Cd, so I'm sure I'll hear more from them. All in all they were pretty cool. I'd definitely see them again if I get the chance, and I wish I had gotten to see the whole set. Rating: 7/10 $5 Cds Phase Two: Waking Hour The next band on the list was big enough to actually appear on the tickets. I had never heard of them before, but they were alright. A nice Progresive Metal band, they suprised me when I saw that they had two keyboardist. Donnie was sure excited, being a keyboard player himself. They played a fairly quick short song, and followed it with an enormous tune/crazy jam session. It was pretty great. Once again, we got the Cd. I guess I'd go see them again. A bit softish for my tastes, and the keys were overkill, but they definitely had some skills. Rating: 6.5/10 Keytars Phase Three: Epica Now here's where things got awesome. If you've never heard of Epica, I like to think of them as Nightwish on crack. When Simone got up on stage and the band started rocking out, it was just beautiful. The music was pretty sweet too. After a few more badass songs, Simone stepped down and they played a Death cover and got a mosh pit formed. It was beastly. I took so many blows to the face, but it was all worth it. Luckily for me, Ray and Donnie are both rather large and kept me upright. After that they played a few more great songs, and stepped down for Kamelot. Rating: 8.5/10 Babetacular Redheads At this point something special happened. The four of us were tapped on the back, and when we turned around we saw Ronny Munroe of Metal Church. We spent a little time chatting and talking about the new Cd. Pretty cool. Phase Four: Kamelot! Kamelot! Kamelot! Kamelot! It's only a model... When Kamelot got on stage, the crowd went wild. As this was their "The Black Halo" tour, they played mostly stuff from their latest album, along with some from "Epica" their previous album. This was great as I consider those to be the best they have ever done. Roy Khan's voice seemed a little rough, but he still put on one hell of a show. The big part of the show for me was when they were playing "The Haunting (Somewhere in Time)", and Simone Simons came in at her point and joined in the singing. There were similar events for other TBH duets, including my favorite Kamelot song, "Memento Mori". They didn't have Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir there for the death grunts like on the album, as that would be inconvenient, but Thomas Youngblood stepped up to the plate, and that man can growl! All in all, this was an amazing show. I'd almost put this ahead of my Hammerfall show. Rating: 9/10 Soul Societies All in all, this show rocked.

Me and the gang are heading up to go see Blind Guardian at El Corazon some time in November. Pretty sure it's not your sort of music, but I can burn you a few songs to be sure if you want.
