So I have found a pretty simple way to make my own single coil pickups for guitar and bass, and I had a few questions.

1) How do guitarists like their single coils? Should I go for really high-output bassy pickups, or mellow it out a bit to preserve the high end more?

2) Pretty much the same question, but for bass.

3) Currently, the easiest ways for me to make these is to use my jazz bass and strat as models to get string spacing and such right. Is there enough variability in spacing that this could be a problem with other instruments? What I mean is could you put a strat's pickup in another guitar without much trouble, same with jazz basses?

4) I can produce these very cheaply given the low prices of supplies and the insignificant manpower factor (I'll be making these in my spare time, so no real cost there). What would be a fair price for a fairly cheap single coil pickup or set of them?

5) Are pickup covers a big deal, or should I just leave the pickups uncovered? Would anybody be interested in an uncovered pickup, or should I just play it safe?

If anybody could answer these questions I would greatly appreciate it. It would be a nice way to neutralize the costs of strings and such, and possibly even help expand my arsenal if I get this going well.

I just got a enews from Stewmac on rewinding Fender Strad pickups. Zephyr, if you didn't get one, or can't find it at Stewmac's website, I'll send it to you.
My view down the street this morning. This is what a real white Christmas looks like. Merry Christmas to all.
