Cool! I'll answer this after I take a shower (it will take me a while, and other people have to take showers, too

Well, I can't figure out how to find out how many songs for each artist or genre there are.
Nevermind. I figured it out, and I'll compile a list at my earliest convenience. Last edited by Aqualung : 07-02-2008 at 08:44 PM. |

Ok, here we go (finally!). It took a while - basically all the money I don't spend on food I spend on music.
It's really a great opportunity for a (kind of scary) look into my brain. ![]() Let me explain my genres - in the first place, I'm extremely neurotic, so I like to tag all my music. But I also like to tag it as specifically as possible in case it should happen that I want to listen to a specific type of music. "Rock" just doesn't cut it when I want to listen to something pretty heavy and yet progressive. ![]() Genres in my media library (of 22,870 songs) Rock - 1738 New Wave - 1701 Electronica - 1694 Progressive Rock - 1613 Synthpop - 1559 Alternative - 1422 Industrial - 1175 Español - 1092 Goth - 720 Glam Rock - 714 Glam Metal - 634 Power Metal - 560 Heavy Metal - 499 Hard Rock - 471 New AGe - 398 Darkwave - 395 Dark Cabaret - 376 Folk Rock - 369 Progressive Metal - 350 Pop Rock - 240 Blues Rock - 200 Techno - 178 Geek Rock - 167 New Romantic - 160 Art Rock - 155 Indie - 154 Shock Rock - 140 Celtic Punk - 124 Death Rock - 120 Arena Rock - 108 Avant Garde - 100 Post Grunge - 93 Soundtrack - 92 Trance - 92 Pop Punk - 91 Futurepop - 84 Gothic Metal - 79 Emo - 72 Classical - 71 Trip-hop - 68 Thrash Metal - 65 Pop - 62 Dance - 61 Punk - 61 Dream Pop - 57 Electropop - 54 Synth Rock - 51 Folk - 50 Gothic Doom - 50 Experimental - 49 Symphonic Metal - 49 Electro-Industrial - 48 New Prog - 48 Electroclash - 47 Big Beat - 46 Disco - 46 House - 44 Britpop - 43 Psybient - 43 Neoclassical metal - 40 Neo-classical - 39 R&B - 34 Grunge - 33 Jazz Rock - 33 Gypsy Punk - 31 Neo-soul - 28 Eurodance - 24 Ska - 24 Medieval English Carols and Motets - 22 Power Ballad - 21 Southern Rock - 21 Funk - 20 Synthpunk - 20 Post Rock - 17 Psychedelic - 16 Ambient - 15 Smooth Jazz - 15 Folk Metal - 14 Swing - 14 Grebo Rock - 13 (D'oh! I forgot to rip my new Ned's Atomic Dustbin album!) Roots Rock - 13 Soft Rock - 12 Acid Rock - 11 Goa Trance - 10 Ambient House - 8 Metal - 7 Stoner Rock - 7 Blues - 4 EBM - 4 Minimalist - 4 Game - 3 Instrumental Rock - 3 Post Romantic - 3 Garage Rock - 2 Reggae - 2 Romanticore - 2 Adult Alternative - 1 Celtic Rock - 1 Chanson Francaise - 1 Dark Ambient - 1 Easy Listening - 1 Europop - 1 Jazz - 1 Jungle - 1 Melodic Death Metal - 1 Mind-Blowing Amazingness (actually a MusicMan song) - 1 Soul - 1 Swamp Rock - 1 Looking at what I put under some of those genres, I am overcome by a neurotic need to reclassify a lot of my music. Some of them, I don't even know what they mean (like "game"? ), others have only one track, and some (like "blues") have tracks that don't really fit under that genre. Others, like "ambient", didn't have songs under them that should have been. Not to mention the redundancy of "Punk" and "Punk rock".Most Tracks Scrobbled on last.fm (out of 27,973 ) 1 Erasure - 377 2 Rush - 369 3 Pet Shop Boys - 343 4 Van Halen - 253 5 New Order - 252 6 Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - 245 7 David Bowie - 238 8 Depeche Mode - 230 9 Utopia - 229 9 Brian Eno - 229 11 Blue October - 225 12 Alice Cooper - 199 13 They Might Be Giants - 196 14 Héroes del Silencio - 193 15 Talking Heads - 190 |

Woooooooo... 108 genres!
Anyway, I had lots of redundant genres (for example, "punk rock", "punk" and "protopunk" alongside each other, as well as different genres "metal" and "heavy metal", and a genre called "the Tulsa sound" exclusively for J.J. Cale, simply because I was too lazy to classify each of his songs separately) and incorrectly labeled songs as well... some time ago. But I reclassified it, and now I have 11 neat genres, with none of them having less than 15 tracks.
