Uhhm so I used to be a member here awhile ago and I figured this was a good place to ask this question...
Over the past year or so I have really gotten into the underground hip hop scene in Los Angeles, been to battles, talked with the artists, and luckily enough, conducted an interview with Immortal Technique for a radio station here in LA. If you'd like to hear that you can find it on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/v/fnHBBck1E9U edit: for some reason my upload to youtube failed - im reupping now. edit2: upload should be a okay - please let me know if its not working. If you've never heard of I - T I highly encourage you to listen to that interview as it gives a good background to him and his motives. And its only about 10 min. For those of you who are without sound or just lazy, he is a socially aware rapper that calls attention to the societal plague of problems that affect middle and lower class America. He is very much preaching values underneath the lyrics of love, honesty, forgiveness, and respect and his trials and tribulations dealing with each. My question to you is if you have heard of Immortal Technique and or follow / listen to hip hop do you know anyone who has a similar emphasis on lyrics that matter rather than beats? I'm personally of the belief that any computer nerd can create a ridiculously good hip hop beat whereas only true talent can write rhyming yet meaningful lyrics. Is there anyone who has the ability to control the cadence and meter of the verse like Immortal? Last edited by Boston® : 03-25-2008 at 12:56 AM. |

Grats on the interview, how did you contact him and set things up? Send me a PM if you don't want to make that info public.
![]() As for simliar rappers...nobody really compares to Immortal. But you might wanna check out Jedi Mind Tricks, Dead Prez, Apathy, Akir, Cyne, Snowgoons, Bronze Nazareth, and OuterSpace. 2Pac wasn't so much of a literal activist, most of his messages are more cryptic and metaphorical, and direct attacks don't touch the conspiracy level that IT digs into, but nevertheless, 2Pac was amazing, and you should revisit his work if you're either not a big fan or not all that familiar with his work. As far as cadence and flow, he's tough to beat.

I've heard of Immortal Technique and I know my boyfriend has. My boyfriend raps. I just asked him if he's heard of him and he's doing a song with him actually. Well hopefully..but he's talked to him about it. You probably haven't heard of my boyfriend though, or maybe you have. He goes by the name of WeB. He has a couple of producers that produce beats and he doesn't rap about "todays rap". His songs actually mean something and his flows and lyrics are just amazing. If you're interested you could message me for the link to his music page because it won't let me post it yet. [I only have 1 momentarily post]
..One of his songs there are about sex..but he normally doesn't rap about stuff like that. I think he did that just for his mixtape to get some people around this area to listen to him more. You should check him out. And if your interested in his beats message me for that to. |

Alright... there are actually a GREAT MANY. I can't believe this. Let me first begin by saying that the only reason why most people don't hear of amazing rappers is because those with real talent are always ignored. This is because those with the most influence do what they can to ascertain that a negative stigma is sustained through media, including music, and regarding minorities, through the music they allow to be produced manifestly through mainstream. In fact, one of the biggest reasons why I stopped recording lyrics and started making instrumentals is because people incessantly complained that they didn't understand my lyrics. Invariably, the response to my music has been "Wow, lot of big words." Whatever. I mean, lets be real; I'm not the only artist like me on , but 50-Cent is the number 1 Hip Hop artist on the site. But, other than myself, a list of lingually amazing lyricists include: Aesop Rock (numero uno -- he calls himself "the cursed version of a certain Virgin Mary womb occupant" in a song... the dude is a genius) Slug Atmosphere Blueprint (performed the 24-hour freestyle, and longer, but I haven't heard the longer ones) Cannibal Ox (no longer together, but composed of Vast Aire and Vordul Megalah) Louis Logic Grouch Eligh Eyedea (the most amazing lyricist ever in life; beat Eminem at 16) Pharoahe Monch (disappeared, I wonder what happened) Scarub Aesop (from the Living Legends as opposed to Aesop Rock from Def Jux) Reef the Lost Cauze (didn't survive to the mainstream, but he deserved to) Jedi Mind Tricks (Although I'd say that only Vinnie Paz is worth listening to) And many, many others... (speak to me if you'd like to hear more) |
