Here is one of the tracks my friends and I have been working on recently as part of a set of tunes we play live on our boxes with knobs on them

Its fairly long [apologies to those with slow connections...] and all the sounds are being produced on sequencers or samplers with the alterations to the sounds being made on the fly. [No use of any pcs/laptops to control how the music is being played ]

We recorded this about a fortnight ago and have just finished mastering it. I am not sure the mp3 format has done it any favours [I generally use oggs for compression but as MM pointed out most folks only have mp3 players...].

Let me know what you think

That was horrible, never upload your music here again!

I'm just kidding of course Just wanted to get that over with so you could conquer your fear of people not liking your music. So on to the real feedback now....

It's 1:00 AM here so I can't pump it through my entire PC sound system which really puts out a lot of bass, so I'm just listening to it through my front channel speakers. But I definitely like it a lot! It's nice to hear what Underground Dance straight from the UK sounds like. And I think it's great that the track is created live rather than programmed. I've seen some of those DJ's have like a whole wall of processors or whatever that look like an old phone operator station and I've always been fascinated with creating music like that. I know you may not have the same crazy setup, but the idea of creating electronic music on the fly is really cool to me.

As for the feel of the track, and forgive my ignorance of electronic in general such as how to tell trance from drum and bass and what not, here's what I think...

It starts out very nicely with a minimalist buildup approach. And it's not entirely synced or tightly boxed, it leaves the listener wondering which will be the primary drive of the song. But then at around 0:55 the alarms go off and a man tells me that the revolution will not be televised and all bets are off.

By the 2:00 mark you have introduced what will be the primary pattern so some of the rhythmic dissonance and anticipation goes away, letting the listener focus on dancing. I'm not a dancer, raver, or clubber, but I imagine this transition is a good thing because, after all, the people need a steady beat to dance to.

From there it remains consistent, but has plenty of variance and embellishments. I'm usually not a fan of repetitive music, but variations on a theme can be a beautiful thing, as demonstrated by composers centuries ago. So my ears while not specifically tuned to electro music, still found this pleasing enough to listen to it twice in a row, start to finish. I can imagine it would be even more enjoyable for a dance music type of person because it wouldn't be foreign to them like it is to me.

So I'm probably not the ideal audience to get feedback from because I don't know all that much about it, but you've got a new fan and someone who will definitely listen to anything you want to share, and hopefully it'll teach me a lot about a genre I haven't heard a lot of. So thanks for sharing, I look forward to seeing more from you.

I am delighted you listened and liked it

Genre wise our music is very hard to label beyond the 'underground dance' tag as we have a lot of influences in our music...it is not easily pigeon holed into sub genres as one song may fit that category but the next assuredly will not...

I will post up some pictures of the equipment [need to go and hunt them out] for trainspotting purposes so you can see what we are using

and get brave and put up another track soon

Yes, your music! I'm glad you uploaded this one. It's really very good. The intro sounded weird, but I think that was just the style of techno, because I've heard lots of songs with that same type of beat. Other than that, though, I thought it was right up there with all the other techno I listen to.

I do like a lot of elements of electronic music, and even though I'm not one to really listen to techno, this was really great work. It seems very well produced, and the fact that it was all on the fly is simply outstanding. Really great work.
