Band: In This Moment
Style: Metalcore, Rock Members: Maria Brink - Vocals Chris Howorth - Lead Guitar Blake Bunzel - Guitar Jesse Landry - Bass Jeff Fabb - Drums This California based band is more for the hard rock listener in my opinion. The band follows so close to Killswitch Engage's style, they're tailgating them. But Maria's voice makes them worth the listen in my book. From lullabye style seranades to thrashing breakdowns, Maria's vocal skills allow her to transition effortlessly between styles. They really manage to stray away from tradional female fronted bands like Nightwish and Lacuna Coil, which is really refreshing, I just wish they didn't follow KSE's style so religiously. Still a good band, though. In This Moment - Prayers

Band: The Dillenger Escape Plan
Style: Mathcore/Experimental Metal Band Members: Greg Puciato – vocals Ben Weinman – guitars Jeff Tuttle – guitars Liam Wilson – bass guitar Gil Sharone – drums, percussion The Dillinger Escape Plan, based out of New Jersey, is a band that takes complexity to a whole new level. The sheer intensity and musical complexity of this band can best be described as methodically insane. The use of algorithms and precise musicianship leaves you breathless after a single song. They have songs to appeal to every genre listener as well. For the hardcore mathmetal fanatic, you'll find every song breathtaking. For the lighter metal fans, songs like 43% Burnt, Sunshine The Werewolf, and Baby's First Coffin will suit your tastes and are good to lead you into some of their other songs. For the more hard rock listeners, I recommend Black Bubblegum, Milk Lizard, and Unretrofied as starters. With no falsehood, they are one of the best bands I have heard in my life. The talent a band has to posses to create such technically sound music is amazing. Definitely worth a listen. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Setting Fire To Sleeping Giants

Band: Celtic Frost
Style: Heavy Metal Members: Tom Gabriel Fischer - vocals, guitars, programming Martin Eric Ain - bass guitar, vocals Franco Sesa - drums, percussion V Santura - guitar Celtic Frost was originally formed in 1984 but split in '92. However in those eight years, they became very influential in the development of the extreme metal and goth metal genres. Having two founding members of the band Hellhammer, they pioneered the Swiss black metal scene along with fellow bands Venom and Bathory. However, Celtic Frost were much more experimental with their use of classical instruments, opera vocals and sampling, which earned them the title of avant-grade metal. Following a reunion in the late nineties, they released Apollyon Sun and then Monotheist in 2001. This is a good band for fans of operatic metal. Celtic Frost - Dying God

I like mathcore a lot, so I'll definitely be checking out The Dillenger Escape Plan. I'll probably look at Celtic Frost, too. I can never decide if I like goth metal or not.

Mike Patton used to front Dillinger Escape Plan. AMAZING band. I can't even express how technical that band is.

It's really simple. It's a polyrhythmic and dissonant style of metal, recognized for a high level of technical musicianship.
Very technical, very thought out, very precise.

Yeah, Ben Weinman's solos are impossible to play, you have to have an IQ of like 120 to figure that shit out.

There are a few songs that I have heard hundreds of times and can't even catch some of the vocal patterns. It's just insane.

Band: MushroomHead
Style: Alternative metal, metal Members: "Jeffrey Nothing" – lead vocals "Waylon" – lead vocals "Gravy"– guitars "Pig Benis" – bass "Skinny" – drums, percussion "Shmotz" – keyboards "ST1TCH"– electronics, turntables Probably more wellknown for their ongoing feud with fellow masked band SlipKnot, MushroomHead is a band from Cleveland, Ohio. Yes, another masked band with more members than you need, but that doesn't change the fact that they have noteworthy music. The lyrics aren't really anything special(not even making much sense half of the time), but if you like a nice laid back metal band, MushroomHead is your ticket. Not much else to say about them without talking about their getup, but they are definitely worth a listen. Mushroomhead - Kill Tomorrow

Band: KillWhitneyDead.
Style: Deathcore Members: Matt Rudzinski - Vocals David Shoaf - Guitar Rob Holder - Guitar Peter Jackson - Drums Josh Coe - Bass (I gotta try and do this without bias. By FAR my favorite band right now) KillWhitneyDead began in Greensboro, NC in 2002 as a studio band and side project by Matt Rudzinski, owner of Tribunal Records. Characterized by their mixture of blast beats, traditional metal riffs, hardcore style guitars, death metal singing, and some trace elements of power metal, they are best known for their use of soundclips. All of their songs include at least one audio sample, usually from a popular movie or television show. They are a great band for the heavy listener and guarunteed to have at least one quote to make you laugh. However, their lyrics are very violent, to the level of Cannibal Corpse, and usually misogynistic in nature. Matt has gone on the record to say he is not a misogynist, he just writes about things that piss him off, i.e. failed past relationships. When first conceived, KWD did not have a steady lineup. In fact, their vocalist Matt is the only founding member of the band that is still active. In 2002, they released their EP entitled Inhaling The Breath Of A Bullet. Following a complete lineup change, save for Matt, they released Never Good Enough For You in 2004 followed by So Pretty, So Plastic in 2005. By the time SP,SP was released, KWD had found a steady lineup in members of a band called The Demonstration, which was signed to Tribunal Records. At that time, they decided to take their act on the road, much to the delight of their fans. After about a year of straight touring, KillWhitneyDead. went back to the studio and released Nothing Less, Nothing More in 2007. They also released an album, exclusively availible through the Tribunal Records e-Store, entitled Hell To Pay. Both albums feature guest vocals by the vocalist for another Tribunal Records band, Jonin. If you're into heavy, angry music, KWD is really worth a listen. KillWhitneyDead - Put A Sock In It

Band: Amon Amarth
Style: Deathmetal, Melodic metal Members: Johan Hegg − vocals Johan Söderberg − guitars Olavi Mikkonen − guitars Ted Lundström − bass guitar Fredrik Andersson − drums Amon Amarth is a Swedish, viking-themed, deathmetal band formed in the early 90's. They do some really awesome synchronized hair spinning during their live shows. They do some really amazing heavy metal and the imagery in their lyrics is wonderful. Unfortunately, I'll have to let the music speak for itself. If you like Dimmu Borgir and bands like that, then check them out!!! Amon Amarth - Runes To My Memory

Band:The Faceless
Style: Deathgrind, Deathcore, Deathmetal Members: Derek "Demon Carcass" Rydquist − vocals Michael "Machine" Keene − guitar, vocals Steve Jones − guitar Brandon Giffin − bass One of the most technically sound deathmetal bands I have heard lately, The Faceless deliver an amazing blast of musicianship and heaviness with tracks such as All Dark Graves and Pestilence. The Faceless have also developed a large following from their dead accurate live performances and the online success of three songs. The band has already become a buzz in the metal scene drawing up to 300 kids at local shows. Michael Keene is one of the best guitarists I have heard out of recent bands like this. Having only one album out at the moment, they seem to have really nailed down a formula that works. The Faceless - Planetary Duality Pt. II

Band: Daft Punk
Style: House, Techno, Dance Members: Thomas Bangalter Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo So Daft Punk isn't metal or hard rock, but they are still noteworthy musicians. Having done collaborations with quite a few artists, including Kanye West, they are an essential part of the House/techno scene. Daft Punk - One More Time

Band: Nightwish,
Country: Finland Style: Melodic, power, symphonic metal. In my opinion the greatest songwriter and composer in heavy-metal genre, Tuomas Holopainen is the keyboard player and mastermind of this Scandinavian band, formed in 1996, with female operatic vocals and heavy use of symphonic orchestrations, they call their music the "movie-soundtrack metal". One of the best performances live, their concerts are definately a must-watch. Google them up, very interesting band with interesting history and great music. |
