Haha...Man...I'm not an 80's guy. I'm 90's. Grew up with Harvey Danger, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and such. Though I did listen to a band named Overkill for a while which was an 80's thrash metal band. They were pretty good.

Anyways...I'm gonna slap up a few more recommendations.

Allright because I've had requests for bands that don't only scream, I give you...

All That Remains

Style: Metalcore(I guess)

I don't know much about the band, but I heard their newest album in the car with a friend of mine and I actually enjoyed it. The title of the album is Overcome and it actually didn't turn me off. Normally I'm not a fan of the singing metalcore style, but ALT really did a bang up job with this album.

Trapaw, you have awsome taste in music. I love Mushroomhead, In This Moment (ever since I saw the vid for Prayers three years back), Hollywood Undead (one of my favorite bands), Psychostick (I was hooked when I heard The Dumb Song. It was on my Myspace for three weeks), All That Remains, Amon Amarth (Runes to My Memory is probably my favorite), and a couple more that I saw but can't remember.

Haha, thanks. Good to see a girl with good taste in music.
I've been trying to update this as much as possible since I have about 57GB of metal(not including the countless GBs of other stuff).

Speaking of which....

Blind Myself

Style: Metal/Hard Rock

Songs to check out: Lost In Time, The Buried Alive Exercise

Blind Myself is a pretty underrated band in my opinion. They hail from Budapest, Hungary and are actually pretty good. They aren't really that crushing, using more melodic, if not a bit sporadic riffing in their music.
I liken them to the Danish band, Raunchy as far as style.
The video for Lost In Time is on Youtube and has the band killing Slipknot. I should also mention that the vocalist for the rock band Ignite has an epic guest vocal spot in the song. Definitely worth a listen.

Hey Trapaw,
Any suggestions for fans of Savatage, Blind Guardian and/or Iced Earth styles?
In short- looks like Savatage is probably all said and done, Blind Guardian's taking too long to record anything and who knows HOW good/bad the new Maiden offering will be.
Any help is appreciated.
(PS- I guess my location would be North Hell/ NC)

Hrm...lets see. Honestly the only things I can think of to recommend might be Celtic Frost's newer stuff and a band called High On Fire.
Though I'm not sure if either of them would be what you're looking for.

lol Thanks. Hey, if you've never heard of them, I would totally go check out the bands Southern Whiskey Rebellion and Drysocket (they're local). One of Drysocket's shows was my first show and the guitar player gave me his picks (along with some Mardi Gras cups they randomly found in the van).

All Shall Perish

Style: Metalcore/Deathcore

So All Shall Perish has three albums out. And when you listen to the first album, Hate.Malice.Revenge, then jump to the third, Awaken The Dreamers, it's like jumping from Kid Rock to Iron Maiden. Only in this case, Kid Rock is definitely listenable(God forgive me for that sentence).
The first album was straight up deathcore. Very good album if you're a deathcore fan, but if not, then it would get repetitive.
Then their second album came along, entitled The Price Of Existence. Now we start seeing them getting more technical in their music.
And by the time Awaken The Dreamers is released, they sound like a totally different band. However....I can say that All Shall Perish is one of the few bands that has undergone a total sound redux and managed to still be great.

Check out All Shall Perish because Trapaw told you to!

I might as well put them up here.

The Devil Came On Horseback

Style: Deathcore

Not a terribly GREAT band, TDCOH sounds like it is the first band for everyone except the bassist and the drummer.
However....they're one of those bands that so stereotypically defines a genre that it is borderline ridiculous. They're kinda like telling a racist joke and then seeing the punchline walk past you on the sidewalk. The Devil Came On Horseback is the punchline.
Guitar work is pretty good, the drummer is brutal as is the bassist. As I said, the vocalist tries to cram too much into every song, but it's still really catchy music.
They're still on their debut album and I'm not sure they're even signed, so you might have a tough time getting ahold of them. But if you ever get the chance, do a quick search for them. They'll certainly give you a laugh.

Band: The Acacia Strain

Style: Hardcore/Deathcore

The Acacia Strain.....Aside from them being a really heavy band, they definitely have some of the more creative music in the deathcore scene. Their vocalist isn't much to speak about, but the music always gets me in the mood to mosh around like an asshole. Also...any band that plays extreme tetherball is epic in my book.

Band: Iwrestledabearonce

Style: ...Who fucking knows? Okay fine...Experimental metal.

IWABO...Holy....shit. They can best be defined as grindcore minus the grind but plus a healthy dose of jazz fusion, techno, and other various genres. They spastically blend styles like a malfunctioning food processor. But the result is amazingly delicious.
They just put out their first album, which I have yet to acquire, but I have their first EP. And it is AMAZING.
It should be mentioned that Iwrestledabearonce's vocalist is this petite little scenecore girl named Krysta Cameron. Krysta...is pretty much the best female vocalist I have run across in my listening. Not only can she sound like a guy when she screams, but she has an AMAZING clean voice, which I'm happy to say she uses quite frequently.
Iwrestledabearonce....listen to them because Trapaw told you to!

Hrm...Apparently I have yet to mention The Black Dahlia Murder. SO I will

Band: The Black Dahlia Murder

Style: Death metal

The Black Dahlia Murder is one of the best "new" death metal bands on the scene today. Not really much to say about them right now other than give them a listen.

Damn..that makes me laugh.. in a sad sort of way. Let me guess- Wal-mirkin is gonna demand a stripped down "edited" version of songs they deem "too offensive" and THERE GOES THE WHOLE DAMN NEIGHBORHOOD.. I truly appreciate the effort to get metal-to-the-masses, but this might be the wrong thing.. I mean there's just something WRONG about buying a metal album (L.O.G. or otherwise) and putting in a shopping cart next to milk, underwear, windex and baby formula (well- everything but the baby formula for me- so substitue "armor-all" in place of it..thanks).. anyhow- you get the picture.

Which was exactly my point. Hot Topic is bad enough. We don't need forefront bands like Lamb Of God going to Wal-Mart. But as I had said in a previous post when the album came out, Wrath was a total let down for me. Not a single breakdown on the entire album and they inserted melodic little singy parts which was something that they spoke out against NOT 5 YEARS AGO!
I've always been one to believe that metal is for fans of metal. Not for someone who listens to Avril Lavigne all the time and then gets pissed off, so they throw on some L.O.G. Not for angsty little teenagers that wanna piss off their parents. They wanna do that, there's Hawthorn Heights out there. I'm of course a metal elitist, though, so I tend to be harsh on them.
I totally agree that a death metal album is not something that belongs in a shopping cart along with your weekly necessities. While it is nice to talk to someone coming out of a music store only to find out that they bought the new Faceless album, imagine running into your strict Christian boss at WalMart with a Deicide or Lamb Of God album in your buggy.
No good can come of this.
We are witnessing the mainstreaming of a genre of music that has been known for it's underground following. No good can come of this.

The Lamb of God news has me in tears (not literally, lol). It doesn't surprise me though, seeing as they had All That Remains and As I Lay Dying there the last time I was looking through their CD's.

Wal-Mart ticked me off because I bought Swan Songs and everything was edited out. I went and downloaded all of the originals and made the CD over again.

Yea but I always saw As I Lay Dying as being really geared towards the mainstream. They came out and claimed to be Christian yet you couldn't really tell it other than their word. That seems to me like bantering to the masses. Which is fine I suppose. Look at the money they make. Sadly though, the money seems to be the main draw for alot of bands in the last few years. Even though we have gotten some epic bands like Born Of Osiris and Mastadon, we've also gotten alot of really horrible bands. I almost hope Im not around to see what happens to the metal scene, but who knows.

Alllllriiiight
Back on topic.

God Forbid

Style: Metal

God Forbid is a pretty interesting band. They're one of two obviously political metal bands that I can really stand listening to(the other being Otep). Considering that I hate political metal with a fiery passion, the fact that they remained on my MP3 player says a good deal. Their riffs are catchy, even though not terribly original. Doesn't take a great deal of technical musicianship to play their stuff, but the vocalist and backup vocalists are pretty good.

Born Of Osiris

Style: Technical Death Metal

Born Of Osiris, or BOO for short, is one of those bands that comes along every so often and gets such a huge underground following that they almost turn into a meme.
I cannot say that BOO does not deserve this popularity, though.
They play some highly technical deathcore music, which is as big an oxymoron as you'll ever hear. The usage of various time signatures, off beats, and eccentric patterns makes BOO stand out above most any other "chugging band".
Check them out, because Trapaw told you to.

Mastodon

Style: Progressive Metal

If you haven't at least HEARD a Mastadon song in the last few years, then you, my good sir, need to get off the computer and watch some more TV.
Mastodon is most known for the theme to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie.
However, as a whole, the band is alot better than this.
One of the truly progressive bands on the circuit today, Mastodon has five albums released, and not one of them has a genuine competitor.
Couple this with an innate fondness for the mystical, the earth and oceans, and one mister John Merrick, and you have the makings of ....well...a pretty damn good band.

Check out Mastodon because Trapaw told you to.

Mastodon singing about John Merrick- as in "The Elephant Man" ? -odd.. I really didn't think anyone would think of a song topic like that.. interesting.
