Ok so, it's the holidays now and I've got absolutely loads of coursework still to do (mainly music). (The deadline for coursework is always Easter but it's come really early this year so we've been short on time.) I need to have it finished by the end of the day after we come back. Now, the school is open through the holidays for revision and coursework sessions but I really need some sort of composing tool that I can use at home because I've just got so much to do. I've got the main body of both the pieces we have to do down but they both need a LOT of reworking.

It doesn't need to be too complex, just need to be able to play it back. Preferably compatible with Sibelius because that's what we use at school so I'd like to be able to import and export sibelius files but it's not absolutely crucial. What I really need is to be able to hear what I'm doing. Preferably freeware or something with a free trial because I only need it for the next 2 weeks.

Any recommendations?

Guitar Pro has a free trial, but I don't know how crippled it is.

Thanks. Will guitar pro play back orchestral music?

It has midi effects for a lot of different instruments, and you can write the notes for them.

Hmm thanks I'll check it out. At the moment, I'm playing stuff back on my clarinet and writing it by hand to copy up at school but it's difficult to write multiple parts that way. And to add to the confusion, my clarinet's in a different key.

Powertab is basically the same as Guitar Pro except its free. But, like you said, if you need it for 2 weeks, guitar pro is the way to go.
