A video lesson on the djembe drum covering positioning, healthy technique and practice, and three basic striking techniques. All questions, feedback, etc can go in here. EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention in the video is when doing the slap tone, you still want to go straight up and down, but you want to use a whipping motion from your wrist. This is what causes the tone of the slap to differ from the open tone. Last edited by Jody LeCompte : 08-22-2008 at 12:17 AM. |

Nice one! What do you edit that with? The drum hits are way louder than your talking, which means people either have to have their windows shaking with the drums just to hear the talking or constantly change the volume of the video. A lot fo editing programs can allow you to change the volume of certain parts of the audio track, so if that's something your program allows you to, consider doing that in future lessons if te instrument you're teaching is a lot louder than your voice. Other than that, it was really informative, and you discussed a lot of important details.

Dude you rock! Thanks for the great video and for mentioning KMA on it. I've tried to get people to post video lessons before, hopefully your great example(s) will rally support better than I could. Thanks a bunch for starting this.

Thanks guys.
I actually used just a little Phillips webcam and the software that came with it. I'm going to close the drum up a bit more(I had it wide open for that video) for the rest of the series so it won't quite be as loud. The biggest problem was I had my hearing protection in(djembe drums are quite loud, they were used back in the day to send messages across LONG distances) and everything was a bit louder than I meant to. The next lesson is going to cover flams, heel toe, and alternative slaps. And then I'm going to make a video analyzing making grooves. Right now I'm about to record a video discussing timing and counting. |

That was an awseome intro for the video lessons.
![]() I am still working on how to get my camera to not have static and what not before I shoot the video.
